Clinique City Block discontinued??

Piccolino2 · 22/08/2017 09:08

I was told by a friend that Clinique are discontinuing City Block? Does anyone know if this is true? It's out of stock on their website and boots which scares me.

It's the only thing I buy from Clinique and I love it.

Any ideas for a replacement?

Oh no! I hope not, I wear this every day

PollyPerky · 22/08/2017 09:54

I have just been trying to call them to ask about this as it's showing as out of stock online and everywhere. :(
I've used it for over 20 years.
Mortified.

In the meantime I've bought Bare Minerals prep lotion which is spf 50. it's quite nice but although it's a primer supposedly, you don't need moisturiser under it as it's quite oily- not in a bad way, but I get too much slip if I use both. I'm thinking of trying one of their other primers that also has a high spf.

Clinique have got a new product- Even Better Defence spf 50- which I wondered if it was the replacement for City Block. it's £25.

The thing is I like to use my own moisturiser under spf because I don't think you get enough spf when it's mixed with a moisturiser.

travailtotravel · 22/08/2017 10:20

Ooh, no. It used to be the only thing I used. Recently though I used a friends Max Factor Primer (SPF 20) and found this really good. Though I prefer the City Block, of course.

What is it with brands pissing about with the products that people actually buy and use?!

user1955 · 22/08/2017 10:59

The uk Clinique website says temporarily out of stock - so fingers crossed it will be continued!

MazDazzle · 22/08/2017 11:07

I hope not.

I bought online from Boots recently.

I'm never sure if I'm supposed to wear it on it's own, or under/on top moisturiser?

PollyPerky · 22/08/2017 11:17

Temporarily seems to be their default setting even if discontinued. Over the years I've seen 'temporarily' for all kinds of stuff ( foundation shades mainly) that were discontinued.
I'm going to call them later.

ItsALardBaby · 22/08/2017 11:19

No! I love this stuff!

MinesaPinot · 22/08/2017 12:50

No! I do hope not. I only got my City Block SPF40 last week in Boots and they didn't say anything.

PrimalLass · 22/08/2017 13:02

Tweet them. I was worried about my usual face cream a while back that was OOS everywhere. They answered my tweet pretty quickly.

seefeld · 22/08/2017 15:18

MazDazzle I wear mine over my moisturiser. I have dry skin so don't think it would be moisturizing enough for me on its own

DeltaG · 22/08/2017 15:34

I used to use city block for the spf factor, but I switched to a MAC product as the formula is less greasy and it offers higher spf.

MAC's face protect lotion spf 50 is great and I swear by it. It has no colour though, so if you like city block because of the tint, then the MAC product maybe isn't for you.

miffy2 · 22/08/2017 15:36

It is available on strawberrynet.com. I like it, wouldn't be a daily staple but I always seem to have a tube on the go for days when I need a bit of a tint without much effort.

PollyPerky · 22/08/2017 16:33

Is the Mac one zinc oxide or chemicals? i stuck with City Block 25 because it's zinc oxide. Read something the other day in a national news supplement about how chemical sun screens can be ageing (even though they block out the sun.) That's why I've gone with Bare Minerals as it's zinc oxide spf.

I don't like deeply tinted spf because they tend to be darker than my foundation and change the colour of it but c ity blocki s just about ok.

DeltaG · 23/08/2017 11:51

The MAC product contains a chemical sunscreen. I think for such a high spf, physical sunscreens on their own (like zinc oxide) start to make the product really thick. I have an spf 60 suncream with zinc oxide for my body and its like rubbing in toothpaste! I don't mind so much on my arms and legs etc., but it's horrible on the face.

City block also contains a chemical sunscreen (octinoxate), together with the physical ones (Zn and Ti dioxides). The MAC product is exclusively chemical sunscreen however (oxybenzone).

Polichinelle · 23/08/2017 14:27

I started using the Biore Aqua rich SPF50 instead and I really like it. I get in via Amazon.

Stevie77 · 23/08/2017 14:33

LRP Anthelios xl ultra light fluid has zinc oxide and is excellent. It's spf 50, no tint but they do a tinted version too.
