Should I be wearing brown mascara?

Just that really. I am very pale with icy blue eyes, my hair is naturally a light brown/very dark blonde although I have it lightened with highlights. My eyebrows and eyelashes are so blonde they are invisible so I dye my eyebrows regularly and always wear mascara and eyeliner. The thing is that I have always worn black but as I'm getting older I keep wondering whether it's actually a bit harsh. I'm not the best at eye makeup so it could be how I'm applying it but would brown actually be better for my colouring do you think?

Depends on the shade of brown and how you do the rest of your makeup.
Black for a full eye make up look

Black with a little eyeliner in the outside corner looks good without a full eye done

Dark brown for a natural no makeup look.

Benefit do a tinted eyelash primer that's amazing. I use it with my brown mascara and sometimes wear it on its own.

I am similar skin and hair colouring to you but have hazel eyes. Brown mascara makes me look haggard. Black is too harsh. Try navy. This one's very good: www.boots.com/no7-intense-volume-mascara-10143397

Interesting, thank you. I haven't thought of navy, I think in my head I'd look a bit 80s but maybe it's worth a go. I think I'll buy a couple of bits to experiment with after payday

I have similar colouring and I always wear brown mascara and eyeliner. I know some people on here say it's a bad look, but it genuinely looks much more flattering on me than black. Then again, I see plenty of people with my colouring who look amazing with black eye make-up, but for some reason it just doesn't work for me (I wish it did, as I love how it looks).

I'd suggest buying some cheap brown mascara from Poundland or Wilko and giving it a try. You should easily be able to tell whether it flatters you or not.

I accidentally bought max factor mascara in black/brown instead of black. It's very nice. Softer than black but not quite brown. It might be a good 'in between' to try.

Ah good tips, thanks tangled and burnished

I wear a No.7 Brown/Black for the day and often go for full glossy, heavier black for evenings. (Am blonde and blue eyed). Alternate between black, brown, navy/grey, green, violet eyeliner depending on what look I'm going for.

You say you dye your eyebrows. What about eyelash tinting? I'm blonde, blue eyes and have blue/black eyelash tint but you can also get brown if you prefer.

MaisyPops · 21/08/2017 10:44

I have a max factor brown one (decided to wear it today after this thread reminded me about it). It looks much better with my light tan than the black I'd been wearing with eyeliner.

I used to have Benefit's plum mascara.

Navy sounds like a fun thing to try though.

I am pale with hazel eyes and blonde hair (including eyebrows and lashes). I use brown, dark green or plum eyeliner and dark brown mascara. Black doesn't look quite right on me.

IlonaRN · 21/08/2017 23:01

The No7 navy one is good :-)

Clinique brown is good.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 22/08/2017 01:01

I get my eyelashes tinted as well as my eyebrows. I wear mascara too for volume as I have thin eyelashes. I find most brown mascara is too warm a colour for me and black looks better.

I used to wear black-brown or a greyish brown a few years ago but haven't been able to find any in the high street shops recently. I'm going to look for black/brown again at Clinique based on this thread, it definitely suits my pale cool colouring best.

Navy never quite works on me as eye makeup, it somehow makes my eyes look less blue.
