Hair build up help

So I have fine hair, its got too much build up and nothing seems to be removing it.

I have used head and shoulders before but I think they have changed their formula cause it's just made it worse.
Even when I wash my hair it looks greasy still, what can I do to remove it

You need a clarifying shampoo such as:

Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo

Work into a lather and leave it on for 5-10 minutes then rinse throughly and use a good hydrating conditioner afterwards. That's should do the trick!

Vosene Original anti dandruff always works if mine gets that horrible greasy build up. Use a lot right through to the ends, lather well and rinse in fairly hot water. You can then return to your usual products.

I use it as a clarifier once a week to avoid build up.

I've recently had this issue. I tried clarifying shampoos and it wasn't enough.
In the end, i used a bicarbonate of soda paste (just mix a small bit of water with it), rubbed on ends, washed off with water - you can also do a bicarbonate rinse apparently. I then washed it with washing up liquid (the type for dishes!), and finally washed as normal. Followed with a deep conditioner my hair looked amazing!

Have you tried shampooing it twice? I always used to only shampoo once, then I mentioned to hairdresser that even tho I had tried the (ridiculously expensive) shampoo they used in the salon, my hair was never as shiny as when they washed it. Turned out it was the double wash. Now I get better results even with cheaper shampoo.

Washing up liquid

Baking soda mixed with your shampoo. Just be sure to condition well, and maybe do an apple cider vinegar rinse to balance ph (that also gets rid of build up)

Bicarbonate of soda dissolved in hot water or a bit of an old fashioned bath cube. I wet hair, pour the bicarb / bath cube over then wash my hair with normal shampoo. My hair is coloured and I find clarifying shampoos can strip the colour.

I have build up on really fine hair so looks greasy very easily. Hairdressers recommended L'Oréal volumetric shampoo and L'Oréal nutrifier conditioner. It's expensive but it works. You can buy a big bottle with a pump off Amazon rather than salon. Shampoo twice with 10p size of shampoo and when conditioning only put on ends rather than scalp

I use it every so often. Works a treat but you have to do 2 shampoos.

L'Oréal make a 'clay masque' range specially for oily roots which YouTube into your hair before shampooing.

Use one drop of fairy washing up liquid. Works a treat

Washing up liquid. We use some wet hippie brand that is not as hardcore as, say, Fairy. I apply some almond oil to my ends and washing up liquid to the scalp, the next wash is with ordinary shampoo, then conditioner to finish. Works a treat.

About 35 years ago my hairdresser recommended mixing 50% shampoo with 50% vodka to occasionally strip off and deep cleanse my hair. I bought a bottle of cheap vodka then and it is still in my bathroom with another few uses in it. Nowadays I hardly ever need to use it but it is nice to know it is there when I do.

God knows what your in laws think of that when they visit Liiinoo

Washing up liquid. It's all the silicone in shampoo and conditioner that cause the build up. A bit of Fairy will sort it out.

Liiinoo I use cheap supermarket vodka for cleaning (glass mainly, and rings). I often think if anyone (plumber, in-laws etc) went in the cupboard under my sink if they would think I was hiding booze for easy secret access.
Bottle is labelled 'CLEANING' in permanent felt tip but I guess that won't fool anyone.

Another one here with a bottle of cheap Vodka under her kitchen sink .
It's brilliant for the above but I also use it spray on the underarm areas of polyester/nylon or other man made fabric tops/shirts/blouses, as it gets those nasty nifts out of the material. So then you don't that smell which only comes out after wearing said tops for a few hours (even if you've washed said clothing at 60 degrees.)

Thank you all, well so far would say a big thumbs up to the neutrogena

The real test will be trying all these on my sons hair, he has to use silicone scar gel and has a fringe, the scars go into the hairline so his hair ends up crispy with silicone.

Am thinking will use bicarb and then lather with fairy, with a vinegar rinse.

Cattier green clay shampoo & Klorane nettle shampoo are both nice and not too harsh otherwise.

So my hair is sorted, just need to sort out DS, used bicarb and then vinegar and then neutrogena and then a final vinegar rinse and then rinsed some more.

It definitely looks less crispy than it did, but it had so much silicone in that it stands up!

Not much I can do except try different things to try and break it down and then keep on top of it, we have to put silicone on the scars twice a day
