Prickly heat

Am on a sun and pool holiday when I'm more of a city break type and I'm reminded why every time I look at my spotty legs! I have the most horrendous looking prickly heat rash over my calves, knees and thighs. As you can imagine, I look most attractive!
Does anyone know the causes (apart from sun), why me and no-one else I'm here with and what I can do to hurry up 'healing' it? Luckily it doesn't hurt and only itches a bit or I'd be being very mardy.

Prickly heat is caused when the sweat glands get blocked (by suncream probably in your case) and the resulting sweat causes irritation/itching/rash.
I get it really badly all over my chest which looks awful!
Over the years I've found that washing using antibacterial soap and those exfoliating gloves (very gently) helps stop it getting really bad. I also take a daily abrihystamine which helps a bit too. A lighter consistency suncream also helps and I avoid and oils.

I normally get it every year, this year I used 'Eucerin Sun allergy' after sun lotion and it's the first year I've had a holiday and not got it- absolutely brilliant stuff!

Try antihistamines.

That's good to know about Eucerin after Sun. I get it on my feet. If it's really itchy I use a bit of hydrocortisone cream

I get a sore rash without using sun cream (and also not sweating), but when I've been in direct sunlight, so would this be a sun allergy? I take antihistamines 2 weeks prior to going on holiday and whilst there which helps a little.

Am going to stock up on the Eucerin allergy cream and antihistamines ready for my next holiday.

Regular non drowsy antihistamines didn't do nearly as much as Piriton for me, although I do seem to have grown out of it

Try the milder stuff but get some Piriton to break out if no joy (which hopefully you won't need!)

Which brand of sun lotion are you using? Piz Buin has a terrible reputation for causing prickly heat, as I found out to my cost a few weeks ago. The Garnier sensitive range or their "light lotion" (can't remember exact name) is really good & helped to calm my inflamed skin. But take anti-histamines too.

Come back to the UK. Problem sorted.

Use p20 suntan lotion -I've suffered for years -then started using p20 and I never got the prickly heat again -also wash with dettol Soap as that really helps
