Help! It's my annual hair dye disaster - need advice (long)

So before I went on holiday I went to have my hair trimmed and asked if they could touch up my roots. I had previously used a dark brown that was a little dark - pointed this out to hairdresser and joked about not wanting ginger roots.

I got dark ginger yellow roots. She's coloured my hair for 3 years so she knows what colour to do but I think because it was last minute she used what she had hanging around.

Not much I could do as I was going on holiday next day but now I'm back I've tried to sort it out myself as I don't want to go back (ever again).

I used a colour stripper twice (Scott Cornwell then ColourB4) but that made the roots more ginger and the tips lighter but the dark brown mid sections stayed the same.

I then tinted the roots only with a 5.35 to try to blend the roots more but they're still too red toned so I now have bright red roots, dark brown mid section and lighter ends (these look natural).

I'm aiming for a natural chestnut brown all over that tones the grey hair.

What would be best?

Tint root only with semi permanent dark brown
Tint root only permanent ashy brown
Pay for a colour correction at the hairdressers - I don't want to use any bleach at all as this caused The Hair Disaster of 2016
Something else

I really don't want to kill the condition of my hair as it is only just recovered from last years hair adventure.
