Is there any way I will be able to wear earrings?

Got my ears pierced aged 10 so 30 odd years ago. After the initial period I never really wore them regularly but he holes are still there. In the past I'd never got on with earrings but just kind of tried every now and again, not wearing them for more than a few hours etc.

About 10 years ago I decided I'd like to start wearing them. Bought 18 carat gold studs. And within a month or so my ears were itching, sore, irritated, etc.

Is it simply a case of I'm just not suited to them? Or is there anything I can do?

Did you pop the gold studs in and leave them for a month? If so, you need to take them out every week and clean off the accumulated gunk before putting them back in.

I'm in exactly the same situation. I can't wear gold - even 18 carat gold contains other metals and irritates. Silver is a bit better but I've been told to try titanium.

Maybe someone can advise us both.

I can't wear gold (of any carat), silver or cheap earrings anymore. All my earrings are now titanium or surgical steel which I buy from this site. They also sell just the hooks that you can put on dangly earrings.

This site transformed my ears. I was like you, could only wear them for a few hours on an evening outcand then they'd itch for days (ever since I stupidly wore someone else's cheap cast-offs aged 19).
Have a good read of the instructions; it's American but you can find titanium earrings in the UK. I now happily wear silver and the earrings my daughter buys me made of I know not what! A really simple method as well.

Oh, she's changed the website so you only get the instructions if you order from her. Might be worth it though. I think the basics of it were wearing 'healing' titanium, not removing them and just using water to clean with, rubbing the area when you have a shower and at nighttime. A bit more info here.
