Desperate - Over 50 - Size 16 - Giving a speech

Desperately in need of ideas. I'm out of touch.

I'm a freelance writer and transcriber who works seven days a week from home. No need to dress for the occasion, most often in skinny jeans and T-shirt, casual wear.

I have been asked to read a speech at a London conference next month - and for self-esteem purposes it would be nice to have something new. Well, actually I don't think anything in my wardrobe would suffice.

Anyone any ideas for a 5ft 2, over 50 Size 16 - not too fussy, as casual as I could get away with, I think.

Crisp white shirt and new dark-coloured jeans?

There's always a good reason to check out Hobb's web shop and maybe a pair of black trousers and a top would do it. Why not the "Aine trouser" and "Juliet Scallop Top" ? Both on discount.

Whistles Lola dress is incredibly comfy and forgiving and cheering to wear. Black tights, flat ankle boots?

Plainish dress plus jacket if you want more formal. What price/colour/shape do you prefer?

I am in a similar age bracket and was in the same dilemma. I threw myself at the mercy of COS this weekend and am now suitably clad in style and not too expensive either.

Thanks all - I think i'd feel more confident / comfortable in a plain dress and jacket.

Love the purple / blue / pink HoF dress traviata, but I think it would suit someone far taller which is a shame.
