60th birthday party outfit help...please

We are due to be going to a 60th birthday party in a couple of weeks. The dress code is below. I need to dress me, DP and DS's. I have very little budget and no ideas. I'm also rubbish at anything hair and makeup.

Hello everyone! Mother has finally decided on a theme! The party will be classic Hollywood. We're taking Audrey Hepburn, Carey Grant, Grace of Monaco etc etc but take from it whatever you want! Charlie Chaplin, Steve McQueen as an example, just have fun with it!

I am 28 and 5'2" about a very untoned size 8/10 with non existent boobs. I will also be about 12 weeks pregnant, probably why this party isn't top of my list to sort out, and showing very early as it's my 3rd. Not planning to have told people though Blush

DP has a dark blue, not navy, 3 piece suit that he hates wearing can he just wear that?

The boys are 8 and 2 and usually live in shorts/jeans/joggers and tshirts so don't have anything smart really. They are invited from the start at 4pm until about 8 when they'll be going home with my Dad.

If anyone has any ideas for me and the boys in particular I will be immensely grateful. The birthday girl loves all the old films but I don't so haven't even got those to get inspiration from.

Sounds like the birthday girl is just wearing what she wants, with no real focus on a 'theme' at all. It also sounds like she just wants people to make a bit of an effort.

A nice dress will be fine - have you got any already? Personally I'd go for the Audrey look as mentioned below - black dress and pearls - but not bother with a hat.

I think she thinks her outfit is very Audrey Hepburn on holiday at Lake Garda, that sort of thing. She's really not as bad as this is making her out to be. She does so much for everyone around her and I understand she wants one night of people making an effort for her.

I have lots of lovely dresses that would work quite well, unfortunately due to the burgeoning bump and associated general weight gain, they are not doing up Sad

I also think if it was just up to her she would have said 'dress to impress' which is easy and adaptable. I feel her daughter may have had some input in making it more restricted. She is the girl who said everyone had to wear black or white to her 21st as she was wearing a colour and wanted to stand out, she wouldn't tell anyone the colour either!

Daughter sounds like a PITA. Buy yourself a lovely jersey dress a size up, that you'll be able to get some wear out of in the next couple of months, and shove a nice necklace and shoes on. Wouldn't worry about the 'theme' at all.

Dorothy Perkins petite black wrap jersey dress, £20, would look great, be comfy and you'd get wear out if it for the autumn with your bump too.
