Going fri morning til sun eve, staying at a trendy hotel in shoreditch, booked in to two Michelin star restaurants. Wtf am I going to wear??!! I can't really wear heels, I just can't walk in them and they make me look weirdly frumpy.
My usual kind of attire is prob a bit modern-boho-art-teacher-wears-clothes-meant-for-young-people. I prob look a little bIt mad but because I only wear quite muted colours it weirdly seems to work. I am not buying anything new, I want to fit in, I really really really hate dressing up in the traditional sense. Eg if I was going out for a few drinks here I'd poss wear a loose cocoon dress (black), patterned sheer ankle socks, flatform sandals and maybe my leopard cocoon coat. You'd either be appalled by me or thing I was a fashion genius!
Anyway . What the heck to pack??? Do I need to wear a frock? Does it have to be a dressy frock? I just don't know! The bloody hotel we are staying at looks way too trendy for us, all the photos have hip young kids in, we are gonna look ancient. Esp dh who is fond of a pair of chinos and a blazer.

I wear whatever I normally wear to London, and pretend I am the hipster, and they are all not so much!

Remember comfy shoes!

Check the dresscode for the restaurants, but hardly anywhere is supersmart evening wearish these days.

mrsharrison · 14/08/2017 18:44

Your money is as good as anyones so wear your "hippy clothes" with your head held high. Make sure your dp takes a shirt and tie as some restaurants have a dress code.

Floisme · 14/08/2017 18:45

I wouldn't panic. I'm sure we're far more ancient than you and last time we went to London, we stayed somewhere round there and had a blast. Nowhere we went was particularly dressed up, including a couple of quite swanky (although not Michelin) restaurants.

I'm not a massive fan of London life but one thing I do like about it is that normally you can dress up as much as you feel or as down as you feel and nobody turns a hair.

Kenworthington · 14/08/2017 18:55

Ah ok cool . I'll just style it out then! Amongst my friends here I prob AM the hipster Grin. Oh and I only EVER wear comfy shoes so no worries there!

You sound like st least 7 people I have passed on my commute home. You'll blend in. P.s. does your OH have a beard/man bun/full sleeve tattoo as well? If so you'll be so much part of the furniture people may sit on you Wink

Kenworthington · 14/08/2017 19:18

Haha no he doesn't! He has a bit of stubble and he hates tattoos 😂 Which is slightly unfortunate.

Ha! His eyeballs may burn in Shoreditch...

Kenworthington · 14/08/2017 19:24

Grin he goes to London a lot . He knows what's what! It's just the fancy restaurants I'm a. It worries about. But maybe they'll be ok. He'd like me to 'dress up' he's already asked me what I'm going to wear. How the chuffed do I know? I don't plan what I'm wearing til I put it on!

I'd say that af really expensive restaurants (and most places tbh) in London you don't need to dress up too much unless you want to. There will always been someone more casual than you! Wear what you want and feel comfortable in and then you'll enjoy yourself more. Londoners rarely dress up. I've seen lots of people wear jeans at the royal opera house

Pistachiois50pmore · 14/08/2017 20:06

The outfit you described sounds very London friendly to me. Everyone's in flatforms, slides or flat ankle boots with cropped trousers. You'd stick out if you looked too TOWIE with heels and "wedding hair". If in doubt wear all black and a bright lip.

Kenworthington · 14/08/2017 20:28

Ooh yes I can DEF do all black and a bright lip. Poss only even a max orange lip!!

FilledSoda · 14/08/2017 20:34

Kenworthington · 14/08/2017 20:37
