Shift Dress for Work

ilovechocolates · 14/08/2017 11:16

I've got black, navy and grey shift dresses, some with short sleeves, some sleeveless.

Do I need to wear blouse under the sleeveless ones? What do I wear over the top of them as I think they're rather plain.?

Careful when putting some shirts under shift dresses, they can look a bit pinafore / school uniform!

I haven't figured out what to wear with shifts other than the matching jacket or a cardigan (yawn) but I quite like a statement necklace in the same colour as the dress.

I wouldn't wear anything under a sleeveless dress in my office. I would probably keep a jacket on my chair for client meetings. Depends how formal your office is.

A couple of good chunky necklaces always jazz up a plan dress. I'm a fan of Oliver Bonas ones.

Thanks, hadn't really thought about the school uniform pinafore look. Maybe I'll invest in several different colour cardigans instead.

It's just I'm not sure whether bare arms are appropriate for the office and I'll be too hot in a cardigan in summer.

I've got a grey sleeveless shift dress that's fairly slim fit. I wear it with a long sleeved body underneath, or a white Lycra t-shirt (short sleeves - looks quite 1990s) or just by itself.

I wear a black fitted, long sleeved T-shirt or turtle neck under mine

I wear a long sleeve black vest type t-shirt u dear my sleeveless shifts when it's not warm enough to be bare armed, I also wear a jacket. In the summer I sometimes chuck on a bolero type card I under the jacket, that way if I take the jacket off in either situation it's all still smart.

I think a shift on its own looks much smarter than with a top underneath, personally.
