I have decided to start walking to work. Two miles on tarmac each way. Can you recommend some trainers please?
(Ideally something plain and black) Thanks.

I find Adidas Superstars really comfortable and have done a fair few miles in them, I have the white with silver detail. I've just ordered them in all black from Schuh. They are currently on sale for £49.

Nike are the most comfortable trainers I've ever worn. I've got these Geox ones in white and have walked many, many miles in them. I like the look of them better than my Nikes, and they are comfortable, but for the walking on clouds feeling, the Nikes win.

New Balance 574

Proper trainers so comfy but also a bit stylish.

BestIsWest · 12/08/2017 15:04

Skechers, sorry, Go Step. Not necessarily very stylish but unbelievably cushioned under foot.
I have metatarsal problems and find them brilliant.

BestIsWest · 12/08/2017 15:06

These are the actual ones I have on my feet right now skechers

PineappleScrunchie · 12/08/2017 15:06

these ones are nice and mostly just plain black.

That's great. Free exercise.
I have a black pair of nikes for wearing with opaque tights and I change into work shoes when I get there.

I second New Balance 574's. Super comfortable and on sale in Schuh at the moment.

I have New balance running shoes too. Very comfortable. Also can recommend Asics and Saucony. I would get running shoes as they are very light and cushioned. You can get your gait analysed in running /outdoor shops. If you need support you will benefit from the right shoe. Tell them what you want them for. You don't have to buy from them. You can then look for the shoes online. I'd probably have a look somewhere like tKMaxx too.

Nike Air Max. Sooooooo comfy. I walk that distance to work and sometimes back and my feet LOVE me now I've ditched my crappy thin-soled Converse and other shite. Worth the few extra bob.

EraArils · 12/08/2017 15:44

I'm really liking the New Balance 574 Molten Metal in Supernova Red as linked by Pineapple. Very tempted except for the fact that I'm not in the market for another pair of trainers.

ChishandFips33 · 12/08/2017 15:55

I agree about Superstars - I love mine

For regular, longer term walking I would wear a sports/running spec trainer - Nike Air Max saved my knees back in the day when I was jogging
I've heard good things about Bew Balance too

ChishandFips33 · 12/08/2017 15:55

Gah, New Balance!

Floralnomad · 12/08/2017 15:57

I agree with pp ,Sketchers Go Step , I have plantar fasciitis and they are sooo comfortable , not remotely stylish though , very plain .

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/08/2017 16:35

For terribly ugly but blissfully comfortable, Clarks tri-flex or whatever they're called.

PollyPerky · 12/08/2017 17:15

I have some Geox trainers - nebula woman- think they are called. They are very comfy. They are leather lined so your feet don't get sweaty.
They are a type of 'smart trainer- def not for use in the gym. I 've walked for miles round London in them.
