What should I do with my hair - colour?

I have been having alternate half/full highlights for years. Toned down from really white blonde to golden but just not sure it suits me anymore. I did this as my roots are so dark - but some greys beginning so need colour of some sort.

Due to various personal reasons have aged facially quite substantially in the last year. I'm not even sure what shape my face is - the emoji won't help I'm sure.
I'm wondering if it is possible to change the colour in any way and what colour I should do.
I don't have great skin. It is pale and quite washed out.
I like the colour of the professional job in the pic but not sure if I would be able to get that. Also wondering about a fringe but think I have quite a long face and quite a big bumpy nose Confused
I really like the hairdresser pic below but don't think it will help the root situation. Can you do a Root drag/bayalage on bleached hair?

Please help someone - I hate my hair Sad

Change to a darker colour. I went from blonde to dark chocolate brown. Never looked back.

I would be wary of going dark if you have grey.

PinkLipsDontLie · 12/08/2017 23:30

I d go light brown with just little hints of blonde around the face. Make sure you get the tone right, cool or warm.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 13/08/2017 09:26

That's the thing I don't know what tone. Am. When I was colour matched for make up they said cool but I wear a warm shade as the cool made me look ghostly and washed out.
Gold looks better on my skin than silver.

How easy is it to go darker? Will it involve a full colour correction? When I have gone darker before they did it gradually but was so long ago I can't remember.

I bet your current colour is wrong for your skin tone - that will be why your skin looks washed out. If you can find a colour that's right for you you're skin will have more of a glow to it. It's hard to tell what would suit you without seeing your face though. What colour are your eyes?

Hairq · 13/08/2017 09:48

Your skin looks very pink toned in the pics which would make you cool toned. Maybe the golden blonde is too warm? Perhaps an ashy toned mid brown?

SleepFreeZone · 13/08/2017 09:50

I probably wouldn't go darker either. Could you put some slap on and take a photo including your face? It's so difficult to advise without seeing skin tone.

LockedOutOfMN · 13/08/2017 13:40

Can you ask your hairdresser for advice?

I would say a very light brown / bronde with keeping a few blonde highlights.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 13/08/2017 15:46

Oh god - I can't put a pic of my face on.
Well actually I have come to this colour from being platinum blonde - that actually didn't make me look washed out so maybe it is more about my skin tone than hair colour.

I have emailed my hair salon and they are going to ring me to discuss some ideas.

It's the roots I hate with being blonde - it looks nice for 2 weeks then massive root growth. I thought it would be better moving away from being really blonde but actually just dislike it even more.

I do wear warm foundation though as cool toned makes me look awful.
Or maybe it's just my face Hmm

I suspect you have to wear warm foundation as your hair is warm toned. It's nothing to do with your face!

mypoornips · 13/08/2017 16:16

I think you are cool toned. Have you tried using a toner shampoo for your hair? Worked a treat with mine when it was too warm for my skin.

TheLuckyMrsPine · 13/08/2017 16:41

Ok so won't repurchase foundation until hand sorted my hair.
Don't want to show face although these will put me to anyone who knows me - below are 2 photos of way have had hair previously. Are either better?!?!

Why don't you try Balyage? Looks very natural if done right; and low maintenance! X

uncoolnn · 13/08/2017 17:27

The ombré/balayage you have in the second set of pics looks lovely on you Smile

mypoornips · 13/08/2017 19:58

I really like both of those but think the first is better with your skin tone. It seems to neutralise the warmth in your skin.
