Ok I'm actually mother of the groom, but am getting desperate. The 'uniform' seems to be a little dress with a short jacket, and a bit of froth on the head. I really want something a bit different, but am not sure what, until I see it. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? I am quite short, and size 8 to 10 with a small frame. Will wear heels. As it is an autumn wedding, preferably not floral/pastel. Love emerald, sapphire blue. Thanks.

Are trousers an option? Cigarette style trousers would look amazing and much sharper than the usual mother of the bride/groom fare.

Greenteandchives · 11/08/2017 16:02

No I don't really want to wear trousers, but on the other hand, I don't know what I want.
I quite like those lace dresses with sheer bodice and sleeves.

In 'Midnight', not black!

Like this, but this is out of stock.

Have you looked at John Lewis online? You can search by style and they do a lace dress option.

PollyPerky · 11/08/2017 16:44

Yes they have 466 lace dresses Grin

This dress from Monsoon is nice: uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.2/3425490708 It looks short in the pictures but if you're fairly petite it might be longer on you.

Alternatively, there's this: uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1,mon_1.2/3401696108

This is similar but a flarier (?) skirt.

Have you looked at the Jacques Vert website? They have cropped jackets in both of your preferred colours with dresses to match - although these are shift dresses, rather than like the dress with sleeves in your picture.

shakemysilliesout · 11/08/2017 17:53

Have you checked what the job is wearing?

shakemysilliesout · 11/08/2017 17:53

Greenteandchives · 11/08/2017 18:45

Thanks everyone, some lovely stuff to investigate.
Yes shake I am in touch with the MOB. Whoever finds their outfit first, the other defers re colour etc. We are v v civilised.
woolly I have looked at Jaques Vert, but thought it was more traditional than I wanted. This wedding is going to be slightly unusual, so I didn't want to go down that route.

this LK Bennett skirt would be great at an autumn wedding. They have styled it with a badly matched top in the model but there are lots of options.

Lucked · 11/08/2017 18:53

They also have a dress in the same material as the skirt.

In the dress section this green dress would be good and could be matched with royal blue accessories.

gonegrey56 · 11/08/2017 19:58

Look at the fabulous frock coats on Shibumistyle.com
You can wear one over a shift dress or trousers . Glorious colours and patterns . Really special !

I love the Temperley/Somerset line at John Lewis, and Karen Millen dresses are lovely too.

ImperialBlether · 11/08/2017 20:15

I love this one from Jigsaw.

Greenteandchives · 11/08/2017 20:36

Lovely Imperial but it would need a jacket, and then we are back to traditional. I think I will need sleeves, as I am not in the first flush of youth, and the upper arms have seen better days. Grin
