Sensible rain coat or leather jacket?

Can you help? I am torn between a navy blue ilse jacobsen long rain coat and a bordeaux Whistles cropped leather jacket, both in the sales. I can't afford both and I arguably need a rain coat more than a leather jacket as I already have a lovely light brown Allsaints one. The leather jacket is also £190 to the rain coat's £90. I have a beige Rains mac which is fine in early autumn/summer/spring rain but I haven't got anything suitable for colder weather that is also rain proof. I feel like I SHOULD get the blue coat but the bordeaux leather jacket is calling to me... What would you do?

I rejected the Whistles biker because the zips were too shiny, if that helps at all?

Having said that, I'd far rather have a biker jacket and a brolly than a proper raincoat. Have never seen a nice raincoat.

I'm a sucker for leather jackets, but in light of the recent band run of weather I brought a Barbour waxed rain jacket in the sample sale and it's amazing. And looks stylish.

I vote the rain coat

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 19:04

Thanks for replying! Remus the shiny zips would be a problem - it is the cropped one - here and on close inspection the zips do look shiny- great call.

Racheyg I know right?! and with global warming etc I'm thinking efficient rainwear will pay for itself over the next few years... I do think Ilse Jacobsen is quite stylish but agree it's not the most exciting purchase...

That's the one. The leather is beautiful, but I just couldn't ignore the shiny zips. I really don't like that raincoat though, sorry.

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 19:12

Hmm maybe I can just make do with what I have and save my pennies for something more wow - it galls me to spend £90 and not be skipping down the street about it.

There's another red one on their website called Lexi?

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 19:40

Yeah I don't like that one for some reason - too flashy?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2017 19:47

Now I'm not sure which one I was fondling. Think it might have been the Lexi, actually.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2017 19:48

The cropped one looks nicer.

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/08/2017 19:53

That leather jacket is absolutely gorgeous. Are the zips really, properly off-puttingly mega-blingy?

userofthiswebsite · 11/08/2017 19:56

Mm, the Lexi has more of a pleather vibe going on though I think it is genuine leather.

Also came across this: www.whistles.com/women/sale/coats-jackets/romy-suede-jacket-22133.html?dwvar_romy-suede-jacket-22133_color=Blue

Not burgundy and not leather but is it just me or is this rather nice?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2017 20:01

The Lexi is definitely real, very beautiful, leather.

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 20:05

I am not allowed to buy a suede jacket. Chocolate. Teapot.

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 20:06

Jeez it is gorgeous though, not just you at all

So what about this in a small? am I losing my mind?

QueenoftheAndals · 11/08/2017 20:16

Ooh no OP, that looks like something you'd get in those catalogues you find in the Telegraph.

userofthiswebsite · 11/08/2017 20:19

Well it's practical... :-)

You can wear suede stuff though, but just cover it in suede protector spray first and avoid wearing it if you know for sure it's going to bucket.

Coats and jackets are my absolute obsession clothes wise. No interest in handbags, it's all about the outerwear.

If it were me, I'd order both leathers and see which I liked best when tried on.

userofthiswebsite · 11/08/2017 20:21

Ps for leathers I like Boda Skins.
Have this in both black and red:

Also have this which I love..www.bodaskins.com/napoleon-v-2-1432#92=21&184=82

Swimminguphill · 11/08/2017 20:50

Wow that is lovely! Way out of my budget though. I am going to lie down in a darkened room x

Sorry, but that second raincoat makes the first one look almost okay! Does anything on here take your fancy?

Wenchelda · 11/08/2017 21:33

I can't see a link for the Ilse Jacobsen raincoat?

userofthiswebsite · 11/08/2017 21:39

Oh I don't normally buy items as expensive as that. They were one-off splurges, you know birthday presents to myself, and stuff like that and only purchased when they were doing 20% off or similar each time.

Do you want a raincoat for walking a dog or some such? If it's for that kind of purpose I'd buy a cheap one from New Look or some such eg
www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/jackets-coats/khaki-faux-fur-trim-hooded-parka/p/522621834?comp=Search

and then go and buy the leather from Whistles as well...
