Transitions lenses - any experiences

Planning on changing my glasses to the frame in photo attached. I am thinking of getting grey transitions lenses which would be clear in non sunny conditions.

Does anyone have any recent experience of these? Mostly from an aesthetic viewpoint.

Transitions lenses - any experiences

I had them and hated it. They would change too slowly and I'd often end up looking like I was wearing sunglasses indoors on sunny days.

The PILs, on the other hand, adore theirs and would never get anything but transitions lenses. they don't seem to mind the looking like they're wearing sunglasses indoors thing.

Yeh that's what worries me. They're expensive frames & don't want to look like am old fogey in indoor sunglasses - ive had prescription sunglasses before & they've been absolutely useless. Was hoping to find a happy balance.

Anyone else?

They're useless for driving (or mine were), as they don't change behind glass.

MiladyThesaurus · 11/08/2017 23:30

Mine changed behind glass. But were annoying for driving. They'd change far too slowly if you went into a tunnel, for example. Or they'd be too dark at dusk and you couldn't do anything about it.

They always have a certain amount of tint.
You need to put them on a sunny windowsill to help them learn to change as quickly as possible.
You can only try them, but DC didn't like them.

joangray38 · 11/08/2017 23:37

I got massive migraines and the lenses only changed colour slowly and sometimes didn't change when they should have .

StatueInTheSky · 11/08/2017 23:38

get some nice polarising lenses for your sunnies....a MUCH better option for sunnies
transitions are slow, useless in the car, too dark for indoors and not dark enough for the sun.

but some people love them! old folk

Agree with what everyone else has said. Hated mine because they were so slow to change. Have now got normal glasses and prescription sunglasses, which are a revaluation: I love them!

A waste of money IMO. Mine wouldn't change in the car, were too dark indoors and too light in bright sunlight. They also took too long to change.

old folk

Well , I must be Old Folk , I love mine.
Yes they don't change behind the windcreen but I've never worn driving sunglasses so I know no different.

My DD comments when my lenses change but 99% of the time I don't really notice them darken but obviously my eyes are grateful. (or maybe they're just too eldelry to protest Wink )

Thank you all. Think will ditch the idea of transitions lenses. Seem like they won't be responsive enough xx
