Summer rain shoes, what am I missing?!

Every year it ends up warm and raining and I never have the right shoes, despite owning a ridiculous amount of shoes. I feel like I've missed a shoe memo.

I love boots and wear them as much of the year as possible. I am well suited to British weather and prefer autumn/winter in general clothes wise.
Summer when it's warm and dry, fine. Usually ballet pumps or Toms, both comfy and look good but utterly useless in rain. Ballet pumps also not great for long walks. I have some low wedge espadrilles that are better, but not good for walking around all day either.

Trainers are generally for the gym or commuting, no more. I find them too casual for my style, but maybe some smarter trainers would work?
I don't wear leather.

Help! I'm sick of spending summer never having shoes that are a)comfy b)stylish and c) appropriate for the weather and what I'm trying to do in them.

What shoes are you wearing in this weird weather period?

Have you considered

Crocs?

DonkeyOaty · 10/08/2017 23:21

Tethers you're going to get a smacked hand, daring to suggest crocs

love mine

Shock

No, never. Plastic shoes are just awful. Plus surely you'd just end up with wet feet? Eww.

Are you including converse type pumps in trainers? They're my bad weather summer option.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 10/08/2017 23:26

I got a pair of trainer-ish slip on shoes in fake leather and they have been a lifesaver in this weird weather, not as hot as boots but waterproof and reasonably comfy. I'm in Scotland though, it's not as hot up here.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 10/08/2017 23:30

Alternatively, brogues, loafers etc so long as not suede or with cut out bits should work, I wore (leather) brogues most of last summer but I bet you could find some fake leather ones on Asos.

Havanas.

Love my Supergas. Have four pairs and they are great run-around shoes and good in the wet. Style is not to everyone's taste, but I think they are more supportive and solid than Converse.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2017 11:31

If you don't wear leather or plastic, I'm struggling to know what to suggest. I was going to suggest leather Converse, but obviously no good if you don't wear leather. All I can think of apart from leather and plastic is canvas, and that's no good at all.

Wood? Grin

Grin Or glass slippers, maybe?

I wear fit flops all the time in the summer. I walk to work and back in them. I change shoes at work.
When I travelled around Thailand I learnt that flip flops were perfect for wearing when it rained and have continued to do so ever since in the UK summer months.
Fit flops means I get the support needed so I can walk for miles.

Op have you thought about the rubber shoes by Vivienne Westwood for Melissa (can't remember her last name)

Wood or glass might be all that's left!

I've seen some canvas Superga's I quite like the look of. I think that might be my best bet.
Flip flops of any kind are out unfortunately as I can't walk in anything without a back. Sort of glad there aren't lots of options I hadn't thought of.

MaryLennox I rather like those though!
