What to get done regularly at the beautician

Got my nails done tonight, for £20. They look amazing. I was wondering what a good, basic "routine" would be, eg eyebrows and also nails every 6 weeks say. Anything else? Just to give a bit of a boost without spending lots. No waxing, am too wimpy. I also never get my hair cut and want to change that too.

@thegirlthatcant I use any individual eyelashes - eyelure from boots will do, though I usually buy in bulk from eBay. I use the black salon system lash adhesive and have just taught myself to plonk them on with tweezers. I've been doing them for about 10 years now with little breaks to stop me getting bald eyelashes. If you use the remover though that helps. There are YouTube tutorials on it I think - but I use a magnifying mirror and place them close together as close to the root of my natural lashes as poss. Don't use too much glue or it doesn't look very natural!

Wow, most of you do so much! I feel like a (hairy) slattern. I last had my hair cut in April and am thinking it could do with restyling. I get my bikini line waxed if I'm going on holiday and ignore it the rest of the time. I shave my legs if I'm wearing something that exposes them, at least once a week. That's it. I could really do with shaping my eyebrows again, I used to do them myself but got out of the habit.

Luckily, there's a beauty salon in the same building where I work, so I can pop in all the time.

I have gel nail infills every two weeks - never anything garish. Just short, rounded and neutral colours.
OPI pedicure every 4 weeks - usually classic red.
Waxing - leg, bikini every 6 weeks
Always get eyelashes tinted and permed before holidays
Occasional aromatherpay massage if I'm feeling tense
Hair cut and highlighted every 2 months

I tweezer my own eyebrows because only I can do them how I like them.

@sortingmyselfoutslowly I got Groupon for IPL bikini line. It was £100 , and I needed two lots of six sessions ( there was a lot going on down there). Best investment ever.
I now have a SmoothSkin Gold, the home IPL gadget, much weaker than salons, to do my legs and under arms. It's slow going, but things are getting better. Have s look at Amazon reviews.

Xootsuit I have always had deepset eyes and as I have got older and the eyelids started to sag they have become more droopy making my eyes look tiny and my whole face look tired. Last `December I went to a cosmetic surgery clinic and the consulting doctor said Botox would fix it. I was dubious (thought I would need an eye lift) but she was right. Tiny amounts of Botox in my middle forehead lift and open my eyes making me look fresher and livelier. It also lifts my brows and gives them a great arch whilst still having movement in my forehead.

I can't frown when it is fresh but unless I am trying to tell one of the DCs off that isn't a problem. I am more than capable of conveying displeasure in other ways.

I go to a clinic in central London. PM me if you want the details.

Incidentally, those of you who wax bikini lines regularly, are you keen swimmers/other hobby that involves wearing scants?

Crispsheets · 13/08/2017 07:11

No, I'm just a silly woman influenced by porn and the need to remove my pubic hair to fulfil my partner's fantasies.
As opposed to a nearly 60 year old who has done it for 30 years for my own pleasure 😁
Hope that helps.

.I get gel polish done once a monthish.
.Eyebrows waxed and tinted every 3 weeks. Upper lip occasionally too.
.Hair cut every 3/4 months.
.balayage every 6 months.
.Lash lift and tint every 8-10 weeks
.occasional massages
.pedicure in summer
.i want to start getting my legs waxed again but I haven't found anywhere good near me yet (last wax was awful Sad)

MaryLennoxsScowl · 13/08/2017 12:21

crisp That's a bit defensive! I wasn't thinking of that, I already said I do wax when I think someone will see it, so I don't have any moral high ground to stand on in that sense. I was just looking to find out what incentivises women to do it regularly as I can't be bothered with the expense and faff. Of course if you get pleasure out of it then each to their own! Though I'm not convinced any of us - including me - who wax aren't in any way influenced by culture (in itself influenced by porn) which says women should be hairless around the edge of bikini pants - it's not like I'd have come up with the idea of ripping my hair out with hot wax on my own!

christmashope · 13/08/2017 12:23

Nails hands only every 2-3 weeks
Nails toes every 6 weeks
Hair coloured and cut every 6 weeks
Waxing-eyebrows, top lip and chin every 6 weeks
Think that's about it...

Crispsheets · 13/08/2017 12:43

Sorry to be snippy mary..just had people in the past say that to me and others.
Love the name by the way Smile

stillvicarinatutu · 13/08/2017 12:54

nails (infill and polish) every 3 weeks
lashes infilled every 3 weeks
toe nails every couple of months with a pedi if feeling flush
facial every 4 - 6 weeks
hair removal ive given up on unless going for a holiday wax! i just shave underarms/legs and do a bit of diy prunage on other bits!

guestofclanmackenzie · 13/08/2017 13:47

@liiinoo
Botox to lift your hooded eyes?

My botox lady refuses to go below about an inch above my eyebrows. She says it's a no go area.

As a result I have a super smooth forehead but a couple of deeper wrinkles just above my eyebrows..which drives me mad. I also feel my eyes are a bit hooded too. Is it time to go to someone else? Sorry to derail thread, OP.

bananafish81 · 13/08/2017 13:53

Gelish nails every 3 weeks

Lash and brow tint usually every 6 weeks
Threading also overdue, not had in months, although I find tweezing the strays keeps them looking tidy once they've been properly threaded to shape

Used to get monthly Brazilian waxes, but years of waxing legs and bikini meant most had stopped growing back, so she told me it was a waste of money to pay for a wax when there was hardly anything left to remove. I use an electric razor and Lumea for the little bit that's left.

Hair cut and coloured every 8 weeks if I'm being good, usually more like 12 weeks

Do a proper at home pedi every month - will get a salon pedi in summer

Saw a dermatologist for acne treatment and she massively stripped back my skin care routine, the simple creams she gave me have done more than any facial or expensive serums or toners. Will have a facial every now and then just as a treat

Started botox about 6 weeks ago and plan to keep that topped up every 3 months

itsbetterthanabox · 13/08/2017 14:07

Bananafish
What did the derm advise for acne? If that isn't cheeky!

bananafish81 · 13/08/2017 14:37

Took me off all the expensive acid toners and serums and the like.

Skinoren (azelaic acid) in the morning, Treclin (tretinoin and clindamycin) in the evening

Game changer!

itsbetterthanabox · 15/08/2017 11:12

Thank you bananfish. I'll look into those products/see a derm!
The only thing that helps my face is benzoyl peroxide but I don't want to use it forever! I've heard it isn't great long term.
