Uniqlo ultralight down gilets - a question for those who have one!

I'm in the market for a new winter coat. I have a raincoat and a down coat - what I need is something that'll fill the gap between those. I am wondering whether one of Uniqlo's down gilets underneath my raincoat would be suitable, but are they so warm that it would be the same as wearing my proper down coat? (If you follow!) Many thanks!

No, not as warm but they will offer a nice inbetween warmth. I often wear mine under my lighter rain mac as it starts to get cooler - think because it doesn't have arms, it's not as full on. Also, if it gets a bit warmer, ditch the mac and just wear the gilet. I love mine, it packs up small so easy to pop in bag too.

They are great for in-between warmth! My step-mum, who has marvellous taste in clothing, has about six of them and wears them exactly as you describe, either on its own or under a raincoat in 'middling' weather. She looks so fabulous too, I have to say -- really think the Uniqlo down gilets are very good value. I would get a few myself except I am large breasted and down gilets make me look like the Michelin man. Sigh.

I would say the gilet is best for either wearing on its own in the autumn or chilly spring weather, or with a raincoat or light jacket over in the winter (providing it's not freezing, in which case I assume you'd wear your down jacket as it would keep your arms toasty!)
