nice suit for teen ds

Where would I buy a suit for ds for university? He does not want to look too trendy or too farty, or too flash harry. Also budget is not Gieves & Hawkes type. More M&S, or even better, Matalan. Would an M&S suit be too middle-aged? I have no idea and ds has even less as he only wears jeans and band t-shirts.

My 17 year old has to wear a suit for school. We got it from Top Man. Also look at River Island and H&M

hugoagogo · 10/08/2017 16:54

We looked at m&s for a suit for ds(18) they were very old-manish on him.
We went for top shop in the end about £80 in the sale.

LadyinCement · 10/08/2017 16:56

Yes, I thought they might be old-mannish. We had a look in Primark today but... the suits there were rather shiny .

Ds got a lovely suit recently in Next.

burnishedsilver · 10/08/2017 17:23

Primark do two fabrics. One is a shiney the other (loose woven) one is much more passable.

skippy67 · 10/08/2017 18:10

We got DS 6the form suit from m&s. Slim fit and not at all old manish. Next also have nice suits.

drinkingtea · 10/08/2017 18:13

Are you sure he needs a suit for university?

Could second hand be an option? Ebay? Or rental if it's for an interview or graduation (though it's the wrong time of year so probably not?)

LadyinCement · 10/08/2017 18:57

I believe he'll need to wear it quite a bit so am prepared to upscale to a good establishment, but, as I said, not as far as Savile Row! I've had a look at M&S but the likely candidate of suit online is sold out in all the normal sizes. I think the Top Man ones look a bit too "with it" with descriptions like "muscle suits" Confused

H and M every time.

bigTillyMint · 10/08/2017 20:54

Muscle suits? 😂

I am watching as I think DS will need one for 6th form in Sept.

OCSockOrphanage · 10/08/2017 21:12

DS second suit came from Top Man. It's narrow, which suits him as he is pipe cleaner shaped, but the cut isn't bad. For £100, plus a second pair of trousers, he was sorted. M&S is a bit wide and boxy for teens.

PNGirl · 10/08/2017 21:22

Matalan's are good actually.

galwaydrive · 10/08/2017 21:26

Another vote for H&M - but why would he need to regularly wear at suit at university? Are you definitely sure he needs one?

OCSockOrphanage · 10/08/2017 21:33

I was wondering too. Even in the 1970s I don't think I saw anyone in a suit at uni until interview week. DS has to wear a suit at school.

stonecircle · 10/08/2017 21:43

A suit at university? Why?Confused

LadyinCement · 11/08/2017 12:13

Ds is a bit weedy so "man suits" would probably look silly. We'll take a look in matalan.

I think he does need a suit after a bit of spying on the student room.

drinkingtea · 11/08/2017 12:17

What on earth is the suit for?

Sorry, I know it's not the topic of your post but I'm very curious! I'm not sure I ever saw anyone wear a suit when I was at uni except to graduations, and some wore tuxedos for grad balls... It's one of the reasons suits for sixth form are so ridiculous - students dress incredibly informally except sometimes for partying...

stonecircle · 11/08/2017 13:47

Burton and Next for sixth form suits here. But I wish you'd tell us Lady what he will be wearing a suit for!

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 11/08/2017 13:53

Next were great and really patient measuring up and supplying lots of different sizes and shapes into the changing room....
