Anyone been to a 'vintage kilo sale' before?

There's one coming up near me soon and I like the sound of it (£3 entry/1960-1990 clothes/pay by weight of what you buy).

I love the idea of going to have a rake and find some lovely things. But also have visions of it being crap quality tatConfused

Wondered if anyone had been to one and what your thoughts were so I can decide if it's worth my time going.

Thanks!

I have never been to one but now I really, really want to! It sounds amazing, and for £3 entry it wont break the bank if it is crap! Please go and report back.

I've been to a few and yes, there's a lot of crap there but I always come away with something. I look mainly for coats and jackets and my best finds are a Harris tweed jacket, a wool coat with a Parisian label and an RAF cold weather flying jacket. Provided you enjoy a rummage they're good fun and very friendly. Some of them have people on hand to do alterations for you as well.

Ahh my beloved grandpa was in the RAF, I'd be delighted to have found a jacket like that?

Ooh maybe I will just pop along then and if it's crap chalk it up to experience and if not then: win! Of course I'll report back. It's not until September though..

I would get there as early as you can! Must find out when our next one is too Smile

Are you in the West Mids, OP.

Something about a kilo vintage sale passed across my newsfeed on Faceache.

It's within walking distance of me.

I've been to one in London, they are good fun if you like a rummage, I came out of one I went to with 10 or so silk shirts and some other bits for a fiver. Some people in my halls at uni would go buy tons of stuff and sell on eBay to make some extra money as students, it works well because you can get coats for example in a bundle for a tenner and can sell individual items on for more than you paid for an entire bundle. You have to get there early though or you are just left with the dregs.

Changing rooms are very limited so, if you don't want to spend half your time in a queue, I'd wear clothes that make it easier to try things on without getting undressed e.g. a T shirt/vest underneath and don't go in a dress.

vintagechick43 · 09/08/2017 07:39

I went to the one in Birmingham in June and also got a really nice tweed jacket for £10 and my DD got a denim jacket for a fiver. Definitely worth going as long as you are prepared to rummage, they refill stock throughout the day so I don't think it matters what time you arrive. It was lots of 90's stuff when I went , I would of preferred more 50's and 60's clothes .

Oh wow. That sounds fab!!

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 09/08/2017 14:13

I went to one in Manchester 5 or 6 years ago and it was really good. I got a lot of great dresses and 70s tshirts that I wear on a regular basis. They had a "test" scale so you were able to work out the price before you paid.

Wear leggings and a vest top so you can whip clothes on and off in the aisles.

u32ng · 09/08/2017 14:37

Thanks for the advice! Yes I was thinking leggings and a vest top under a long jumper so that I can just try stuff on once I've got my pile of stuff.

Fly in the ointment though - my son has a bday party that morning so I need to work out a way around that(I literally have no plans any other weekend in September so how bloody typical it should fall on that Saturday!!!! It's on the Sunday but feel there might not be much left by then. Wonder if I can bribe my son to behave for an hour whilst we whip round before the party??Hmm
