How exactly does one do Duchess of Cambridge-style makeup?

Hiya, I'm a bit rubbish at makeup but am trying to learn.

Lately I've been trying tutorials on youtube to get the Kate look with eye makeup in particular, but it always looks really trashy on me and far too heavy, with loads of eyeliner. I'm fairly pale, with dark hair/blue eyes, so maybe that's why.

I use chanel lumiere foundation and slate eyeshadow from Mac.
Any advice welcome!

Loved the little passive aggressive smiley. I did a real life laugh at that!

OP, I think before you invest in any products you should figure out if you lean more towards warm or cool.

If you are warm then browns will probably suit you more, and if cool then greys will probably suit (and possibly black - it sounds like you have a lot of contrast which may make black ok for you, but it really depends - I am pale with dark hair but I can't wear black at all)

The reason I mention this is because when I first got into makeup I struggled until I figured my tone out. Realising I was warm made everything else fall into place.

Kate Middleton is cool toned - I believe a "true summer". If you are warm then a similar palette will probably not flatter you - something to keep in mind.

I tried Pippa's look and ended up looking like a drag queen.

Well, like I said, all advice is welcome! including opinions from people who don't necessarily agree with me. (I feel your pain, Dotty , it looked so 2009 on me).

I think the problem is that my skin tone is quite cool - lots of pinky/bluey tones.

If anybody can tell me how to do Taylor Swift's look, that would be welcome too...!

Lipstick - Bobbi Brown sandwash pink

Match foundation to skin tone and use a tawny blush on apple of cheeks

Bit of pink toned highlighter on cheekbones on top third area of blusher.

Eyes - ivory, cool matte pinks, dove grey and taupe. Bobbi Brown again. Mid tone shade in the socket line.

Kohl liner in charcoal or navy for a softer look

Loads of mascara.

Don't line all the way around like Kate does - it's so ageing!

Teehee. Her eyes are too small and too close together. She looks sneaky.
