School run coat - the boys version

Please help me find a coat for DS who is starting secondary in Sept. I'm losing the will to live and have been looking for hours.
School are super fussy and so is DS!

It has to be all one colour, ideally black. Reflective strips are ok but its not supposed to have visible logos or other bits of colour. He has a 20 minute walk so it needs to be a bit waterproof but can't have too much padding and apparently puffer jackets are ugly anyway!

Please help!

Just get a plain black windproof/waterproof outdoorsy tech hooded jacket thing. He's bound to lose it and/or want to replace it with the type the popular boys at school are wearing anyway

Will he wear a coat? Most around here wear just their blazer no matter what the weather.

Most secondary school boys don't wear coats. Maybe buy a very very cheap small packamac that can live in the bottom of the rucksack so when he gets soaked you can say "well you do have a coat". He will probably take it out for the first time in Y9 when it will be tiny.

This was our experience anyway, and the worst mistake was buying the logo'd and name-printed official school coat. £21 for something never ever worn.

He does wear a coat at the moment and not lost any yet. I reckon it's a good call to just get a thin, cheap one though until he finds out what everyone else has and wants that!
