Trainers, skinny jeans, big feet

Right. Is it ever possible to wear trainers (casual trainers like converse, superga, Stan smiths etc) with skinny jeans if you have big feet without looking like a total goon? I always feel like my legs look like golf clubs when I try this due to my immense feet (ok, size 7 so not massive but big enough). I love how trainers and skinnies look on other women and oh to be able to wear a battered lad pair of converse with a little summer dress. But I feel ridiculous. Can this ever work? Are there any trainers that don't make big feet look like they belong to a clown?

I would say no to converse. :(

Maybe superstars though? They are quite wide looking?

Invisimamma · 05/08/2017 13:38

I have Size 7 feet and converse and skinny jeans is like my uniform, didn't even realise I was making a fashion faux pas!

PNGirl · 05/08/2017 17:25

7's not big! The average shoe size women is a 6.

That said, I find black or any other dark colour and a round toe minimise this, like on Adidas Superstars.

Superga aren't as long and skinny-looking as Converse.

Crispsheets · 05/08/2017 17:27

I'm a size 9 and wear Superga and skinnies.
And I'm 57.
Shoot me now

imnottoofussed · 05/08/2017 17:34

I'm a size 8, I wear converse with skinnies. I don't tuck the laces in so that helps to make it look less long footed if you know what I mean. I don't like them with bare leg or ankle so I can't wear them with skinnies rolled up for example. I think height helps as well. I'm 5"9 so I think my feet look right for my body.

Beadieeye · 05/08/2017 17:34

Yesssss, go for it

Discofairypants · 05/08/2017 19:53

I'm a size 8 with skinny legs and always wear Superga with skinny jeans. They do look much better on me though than converse and I don't tuck the laces in. I'd love to wear mine with dresses but you're right, they don't look right. Far too clumpy against my skinny ankles! Feet are flat too so that makes it worse.

I'm so jealous of size 5/6 wearers! I'm 5ft 6 so not massively tall and my feet do look big. First thing I'd change about myself if I could.

LambChopsMcGee · 05/08/2017 20:24

?!

Size 8 here and I wear Converse and skinnies all the time, and wear them with skirts and dresses too.

Now I'm worried what people think!

I don't have skinny ankles, really, and I'm 5'10, but still.

Hmph

Hairq · 05/08/2017 20:33

God, don't worry about what people are thinking - I don't think I've ever thought anyone looks ridiculous in this combo apart from me - I look bloody stupid, but everyone else seems to look fine so maybe it's just specific to me?

I guess we see ourselves from a different angle, eh. No one else is starting straight down at my size 8 converse sticking out.

I'm sure you don't look ridiculous.

secretsignal · 05/08/2017 22:30

Try on different Converse, some give me banana feet but my white Converse dainties are perfect with skinnies.

BunnyDog · 06/08/2017 11:42

I had this exact problem, my feet felt like golf clubs even though they are only size 7. Try the Converse or Vans etc that don't come up so far up the foot - low or mid top. So they are lower cut and expose more of your foot/ankle to balance it out. Vans authentic are medium and make my feet look more normal length. Vans Palisades are very low and make my feet look tiny, but they can slip off a bit. My regular converse come up too high to wear with skinny jeans, my feet are sooo long when I wear those.

MaisieDotes · 06/08/2017 11:46

I wear supergas with skinnies and they're fine, I'm a size 6.

Off topic but the slightly high-rise (mid-rise?) supergas are great for wearing with skinnies in socks weather, as they cover up your socks without going over the jeans.

burnishedsilver · 06/08/2017 12:32

The only look big from the angle you're seeing them at. They look fine to everyone else.

AWholeLottaRosie · 06/08/2017 13:11

I think if you're fairly tall it looks fine. I'm only 5ft 4 but with size 8 feet so have to be very careful to avoid the flipper look. I've started wearing slim-fit jeans as they're a bit more forgiving than skinnies.

Hairq · 06/08/2017 15:45

I'm 5'4" too - maybe that's the problem.

PrettyGreyEyes · 06/08/2017 19:00

Im 5'6" and have size 8 feet and skinny legs so dont wear Converse for this reason - theyre just too flat and make my feet look massive no matter what i wear. I tend to wear trainers with a thicker sole (Superga) or a bit of a wedge to shirten the foot. I think its the contrast. If you have chunky/muscular legs it doest look as bad.

PrettyGreyEyes · 06/08/2017 19:01

shorten ffs

dibly · 06/08/2017 19:12

Yes, this is me too, 5 ft 7, size 7 feet and nicknamed kipper feet by bullies at school (nice!). I find chunkier soled trainers help, as does caring less, but a new problem is my feet blister so easily that all shoes cause problems.

karalime · 06/08/2017 19:14

I know how you feel, I'm 5'4" with skinny legs and size 6 feet so I worry a bit. However, I have recently decided not to care and got some Vans Old Skool. They look quite big and chunky on everyone.

Realistically Vans and Converse are only going to look cute and dainty on Size 3/4 anyway so there's no point worrying.
