'Sparkles' dress code

Synecdoche · 03/08/2017 17:52

I'm going to a party next weekend and the dress code is 'sparkles'! This obviously fills my heart with fear as I have nothing, even vaguely, sequined.

I need a complete outfit (either a dress or top/skirt) and want to spend around £25. I'm a size 16/18 - tall with an hourglass body type.

Please help?!

Could you wear a 'plain' outfit and accessorise with sparkles?

  • Your 'blingiest' jewellery

  • Glittery (eye?) make up

  • Sequined/glittery scarf, belt or shoes

Asos should have some budget friendly tops/dresses if you want to go for the all over approach!

Could you wear a 'plain' dress that you already have with sparkly shoes and jewellery?

Snozwanger · 03/08/2017 18:00

Could you just wear a quite bling statement necklace? Sequins could be tricky to find if they're not in fashion and they might not be your cup of tea anyway. I wonder what they have in mind?

Sorry poppins cross posted.

I've seen some fab glitter shoes around, maybe do that?

These might be of no use to you but I thought I'd have a little look for you whilst I was on there anyway! Sorry if they're crap, sparkly is hard to find in the summer, love a good embellishment/sequin in December.

Good luck

Do you have a lovely plain dress you'd be happy to wear that you could accessorise with mad costume jewellery?

I once spray painted black high heels with glitter hairspray for a party it came off reasonable well although I wouldn't risk it on my best LK Bennett's.

You can also get nice blingy bolero jackets to go over a plain dress.

Also worth a look at charity shops - they're often good for affordable bling.

Have a look at this months Cosmo - there is a short article on wearing sequins/sparkles

Synecdoche · 03/08/2017 18:46

Thank you all for suggestions so far!

I have humongous feet so glittery shoes, while a great idea, might be tricky! I've already scoured the charity shops but might have a look for some sparkly accessories online - I think I have a plain black dress but it's long sleeved and quite wintry...

hippy and dipping thank you for those links - particularly the boo hoo £12 number. Anyone know how sizing comes up in boo hoo?

Thanks again Smile

I've found boohoo to be 'true to size'
