Double crown bad haircut

My DS has just had his surfer long hair cut short. before starting school. It looks dreadful (not what I asked for at all, I had asked for just a shorter shaggy style, he kept cutting), but the main thing is that he has a double crown and the hair is now sticking up like horns on each side, he looks ridiculous.

Hairdresser said it would settle down and we are going swimming later so it can be washed after that. I don't think it will. He said he could cut it shorter if it didn't settle down which I think will be worse!

So, help please. Is it likely to settle down and if not what can we do, just wait for it to grow?

My DS has a difficult crown. Unfortunately it needs length to weigh the hair down flat. I get so pissed off when time and time again I tell them how to cut the crown and they do it too short so it's sticks up like a cockatoo!

You're right, don't let them cut it any shorter. Try and blow dry it flat. Hopefully his hair will grown quickly.

My son is the same, cow's licks at the front and a double crown. His hair cannot be cut really short or else it sticks up everywhere, it needs carful curing to keep the weight in it. I think it will need to grow out a bit, but sure by September it will have grown enough to weigh it in place.

Lambzig · 02/08/2017 21:59

Thank you, it's a bit less disastrous after washing, but it doesn't look good.

Yep, DS has cowlicks at the front too. I know it's just hair, but I am upset he looks silly.

I asked for this, but had moved to reception as DS plays up if I stay next to him. Very different.

Omg that's a totally different hair style to the one you requested. It's like the hairdresser just did his own thing completely.

CakeNinja · 03/08/2017 08:52

Ds has a double crown, I keep his hair cut very short, nothing sticks up! It does just before he gets it cut again.
I think the options for disguising a double crown are either very short or very long! Either that or you embrace it by keeping it medium length and enjoy the tufts!

JamAndBread · 03/08/2017 08:54

Shock Did you show them that photo when you explained what you wanted? It's not the same at all!!

frecklesmcspeckles · 03/08/2017 08:59

Oh I feel your pain. I had a haircut like that with ds. Double crown and cows lick at front exactly as a pp said. My dh is the same! Dh goes pretty short and then controls the cows lick with gel. On ds we have to go long on the crown and not too short on the "fringe" at front also to keep the weight.
After our bad experience we went shorter thinking better but nope. It just had to grow out a bit. Thankfully only a few weeks. In the meantime water to weigh it down every so often or just ignore!! Didn't bother ds so I decided in the end it wouldn't bother me!

Lambzig · 03/08/2017 09:05

Yes, that photo, which would have meant cutting about two to three inches off. He has cut my kids hair for ages, I said I wanted it a bit shorter. I don't know what he was thinking.

It looks absolutely ridiculous this morning, like he has horns, have tried to damp it down but it just looks stupid. Some of the top bits are only an inch long.

From that angle it looks like they cut off his sideburns too? Please tell me I'm mistaken Shock ?

I sympathise. DS1 has had more crap haircuts than I've had hot dinners - barbers can't seem to deal with hair that isn't medium thick, medium straight and with no quirks. He won't go to hairdressers (teen)

But seems hairdressers have off days too

IdentifiesAsYoda · 03/08/2017 10:50

hahahaha
I've just realised i was looking at the picture all wrong. Like one of those Visual Illusion pics

SunshineOutdoors · 03/08/2017 21:00

Me too! I thought it was head turned to the left. It looks a lot better now I see it properly.

PacificDogwod · 03/08/2017 21:04

Yep, DS with double crown and double cowlick here too.

He used to have VERY short hair cuts (think 5 sides and back, 8 on top) and that looked ok if you like the shorn look.
He's now 14 and has longish hair, long side-swept fringe and long at the crown but short a the nape of the neck.

Lambzig · 03/08/2017 21:09

Oh gosh see what you mean. It's his arm raised on the left. That would be worse. No that's the view from the back of his head.

D Sis has had a look today and while she agrees it's awful, managed to find some pics of how it might look in a month or so.

It's really chopped on top too with random bits that are less than an inch long on a floppy fringe. I think the hairdresser just panicked and then kept going.

Hopefully it will grow quickly.

Yes Pacific, I think lesson learned and longer is the way forward. I think he is a bit big faced for the very short look.

PantPlot · 03/08/2017 21:11

I think I'm looking at it wrongly as well, like it's from behind and he's looking to the left? But I can't see it any other way, what angle is the photo taken from actually??

My youngest also has a double crown, but he's slightly curly so it tends to stick up and out all over when it's short, rather than just at the top of the head

PantPlot · 03/08/2017 21:12

Oh of course Smile I see it now

Timefortea99 · 03/08/2017 21:14

Could you tug down the hair with straighteners until it grows a bit?

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/08/2017 21:14

Took me ages to see the arm

BestIsWest · 03/08/2017 21:18

DS has a double crown and cow licks too. He used to have hair that stuck out at all angles. He's solved it by having a Mohican [Grin].

Maybe not the answer if he's just starting school though.

Athrawes · 04/08/2017 03:12

I have a double crown and use it as an excuse for not having a cute pixie cut (it's the hair eh, not the fat face and double chin that I have!). My brother has the same and, with short, auburn hair, as a child mostly looked like a coconut. I am actually rather sad that my son doesn't have a double crown, it is rather special.
Anyway - either super short or long surfer style.
He's starting school, not his first job, don't panic. It'll grow.
