Ultimate Breton

So my Joules harbour Breton needs replacing. It's tired. It's been brilliant though.

Ideally I would like white or cream with a navy or black stripe, little bit of stretch.

What's the best one people have found? Cost per wear would be happy to go to £100.

I really fancy a Mon Breton personalised one.

Not Boden, I've tried them and sold both on eBay. Too flimsy.

I like my ME+EM Breton. I agree Bodens are really thin and not very good at all.

Helenluvsrob · 01/08/2017 08:55

Joules !

ZaraW · 01/08/2017 10:02

St James still made in France brilliant quality.

ShesAStar · 01/08/2017 14:09

There's a shop online called Breton Shirt, they have some lovely looking ones but I haven't ordered so can't say if they're good quality.

CoconutAmericano · 01/08/2017 14:11

I've gotten some lovely ones from cos over the years

pineapplesarentforpizza · 01/08/2017 20:40

Uniqlo ones are lovely, but I find them very boxy and too short on me do it depends on your body shape. I rate Seasalt as they wash well, are well cut and have no visible branding (unlike Joules etc who do and it really annoys me for some reason!)

Laska5772 · 01/08/2017 21:06

Seasalt they are fab. Organic cotton . 3/4 sleeve, 2 for £40..

Their sailor shirt also good, a bit thinner, longer sleeve. Also 2 for 40

Acornantics · 01/08/2017 21:49

I like the Jaegar ones from TKMAXX.

C0untDucku1a · 01/08/2017 21:54

Ooo i like the sailor shirt

Shenanagins · 01/08/2017 21:54

I got a lovely one from Zara a few years ago and it really held its shape. They still seem to stock them.

secretsignal · 01/08/2017 23:13

Jigsaw! Fitted but stretchy not clingy. Wash beautifully.

littleredpear · 02/08/2017 21:19

Oh I have had Cos ones but I like a thick strip and a thin stripe - all mum is Ines had even stripes 😂

Thank you for the replies. Will update soon Flowers

i've just ordered the me&em one after reading a long article about it and how kate middleton wore it post partum because it has magic slimming properties apparently. It's not arrived yet but i'm 5 weeks postpartum so it has a hell of a job to do!

I don't like the petit bateau ones, they shrink upwards.

astoundedgoat · 03/08/2017 07:04

My Petit Bateau has stood the test of time, but the hem at the front flipped up in the wash and won't flatten back down, which is annoying.

brittanyfairies · 03/08/2017 07:14

There is a brilliant clothing company in Brittany called Mousqeton who sell online and who sell Breton tops, their entire catalogue is based on stylish Breton maritime wear.

GlitterGlue · 03/08/2017 07:27

What's Seasalt sizing like? I'm a 10 top in joules, but not really a 10 top, more a 12.

Cakescakescakes · 03/08/2017 08:53

The Brighton Bretons from Sugarhill and incredibly flattering and wash brilliantly. 95% cotton with little bit of elastase and nice weight of fabric. They do have some pocket embroidery or slogans so if that's not your bag then maybe not for you but they are superb tops. My favourite thing is that the neckline doesn't gape and is doubly reinforced with fabric so it just sits really well.

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 03/08/2017 15:13

Joules are the best quality, but verge on too-thick for warmer weather. Seasalt are the next best, Boden and Gap are shite.

I am a busty 12 but like my Bretons loose, so actually go for a 16 in Seasalt and that is perfect for me.

(obviously I am now going to sit and research all these other companies and add more stripes to the 10 I already have!)

MuchasSmoochas · 03/08/2017 15:17

I know this one!! It has to be Petit Bateau in heavy jersey. Bit pricier, £60 but I've had mine for five years and it still looks brand new. Sizing is small, I'm usually a medium but went for large.

Onynx · 03/08/2017 22:38

I used to work in a sailing shop in Brittany & the brand they stocked was Le Minor. Mine is still going strong 15 years later!

runningyogabooze · 04/08/2017 00:06

Me&Em - much better than Boden and washes nicely too.

TooMuchGin · 04/09/2017 22:48

You can't beat a Mon Breton - and you can personalise them!
