I need a sun hat/straw hat for a big head!

Going away at the end of the month for a long trip. I need a sun hat. I hate baseball caps, and don't really like hats much generally but I had had skin cancer and really must.
But I don't fit the 'one size fits all' I have found in women's shops! I have a big 57/58cm head!

Can anyone recommend nice summer hats for big bonces?!

I've just got a Tilley hat, which come in different sizes - I struggle to find hats big enough as well.

Or M&S had some fairly decent ones recently, which come in a M/L size, which was big enough for me.

Aha, my specialist subject ☺ 62cm head here.

M&S mens do an XL and have a nice straw or pale blue trilby in at the moment but might not have a wide enough brim for a sunhat.

However, I have just ordered the Capelline Panama from panamahats.co.uk - I rang up and they were v helpful and found one in their stockroom that is the right size. Not receives it yet but will report back. £40 so not cheap but after years of one size doesn't fit all disappointments I am prepared to pay if it fits and protects my pale skin.

Actually, their ladies large size is 58-59cm so that might be suitable.

Amazon have a cheaper one that I ordered but is slightly too small but could be good. Hang on, will find link...

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01GGJM9GQ/ref=ya_st_dp_summary?ie=UTF8&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

It arrived in about a week and would be fine for the beach, etc (slightly squashed but creases come out when worn). I've given mine to DO.

I have also had success in the past with sun visors - Sainsbury's usually sell them at this time of year.

DD not DO

I've got a 62cm head too @standstilling. I've never found a women's hat to fit me in a high Street shop. I bought a couple of sun hats from www.hatsandcaps.co.uk and they've been brilliant. Good service too.

This place may have something, it's a local shop that's been going for years

I think you can design your own too. The store is called Pacahuti, it's won several awards I believe.

I got a Jaxon stetson type hat from here. It is ok but I need one with a bigger brim although you can bend the brim down to a degree. My hat size is 59 cm and I never get a hat to fit on the high st!
If anyone finds one with a large brim then please let me know, I am getting vitiligo on my face and want to avoid getting a tan as much as possible.

I have a 64cm size melon. I get my hats at Lamood's and they only sell hats for big heads. I highly recommend them: www.lamoodbighats.com

Big head, thick hair. I got a men's straw panama type hat from Sainsbury's for £10. In the men's section, but pretty neutral.

IlsaLund · 31/07/2017 18:10

Huge head here - I have a Tilley Hat - when I went to the shop to try them on they didn't have any big enough so they had to order one form me.

Standstilling · 01/08/2017 11:34

We all know it's so our huge brains fit in, right? 😉

Standstilling · 02/08/2017 14:00

It's here and it only bloody fits! Shock Smile And looks really nice and not at all ridiculous! Would def recommend.

Melfish · 05/08/2017 00:14

Standstilling how big is the brim? Does it cast most of your face in shadow?

Standstilling · 05/08/2017 15:50

About 12 cm? Yes, casts a decent shadow but not so wide I can't get through doorways.

cassiewoo · 05/08/2017 16:25

I have a MASSIVE head. Haven't measured it but nothing fits. Until I found a wide brimmed straw hat in Matalan.
