Smart/casual shoes - what do you wear?

The dress code for my job is very relaxed and even for client meetings I'm not expected to be especially smart but I do like to make a bit of an effort.

I really like the Sue Perkins type look of blazer, shirt or t-shirt and slim fitting jeans or trousers but struggle to find shoes that work. Ballet pumps make it all too smart, brogues are OK but they rub when I have to walk any distance, Converse or Vans (my usual footwear of choice) look great but just feel too casual.

Any suggestions?

I wear these (I'm on my second pair!):

I also wear these (bit more dressy(:

I LOVE Tracey Neuls shoes. I have at least 10 different pairs, most of which I wear to work (and play).

Wowsers, they're expensive!

I think I'm too common for these boards!

And when I'm really dressing down at work, I wear these (it feels like wearing a pair of slippers):

The female staff of Houston, TX airport particularly like them (I had 3 staff comment how great they were in the space of about 15 mins!) but people in London seem to love them too.

I have never spent that much on shoes in my lifeBlush

musicalmama · 30/07/2017 22:54

TOMS.

Most comfortable flats ever. And slightly more posh than trainers I'd say.

LadyFairfaxSake · 30/07/2017 22:54

Timberland boat shoes,stylish & comfortable.

musicalmama · 30/07/2017 22:56

Or loafers. Matalan have awesome silver ones at the moment! Cheap and cheerful. Grin

If it is 'smart' enough to be wearing a blazer, then I can't see how ballet flats / ballet pumps could be 'too smart'. They present a FAR more casual image than a blazer does, surely.

FlyingSoloFlyingFree · 31/07/2017 06:01

Yes that's exactly it, they make me feel too smart and also a bit prissy whereas the look I'm going for is more arty/casual but with a nod to the fact that it's a client meeting.

Thanks for the other suggestions, still not quite sure but I will check them out .

We all wear ballet pumps at work and are dressed in similar attire to what you have described. That's our smart/casual everyday work wear. I've never heard ballet pumps described as being too smart before.

Fairylea · 31/07/2017 07:23

I also don't think ballet pumps would be too smart. If you're wearing a blazer I think they would finish the outfit off better than Toms etc. You can get loads of lovely ballet pumps now in really interesting patterns and colours. I'd go for something a little "out there".

silkpyjamasallday · 31/07/2017 07:36

I would suggest loafers, but look for something a bit different so not plain black, go for fabric or coloured leather or get a backless pair that slip on. I have a fab pair of slip on loafers from Topshop and they are amazingly comfortable and surprisingly don't slip off your feet even with tights.

Or maybe some small block heel mules with an open toe? LK Bennet have some gorgeous ones in a rust coloured suede but they have been permanently sold out in my size Sad

They're smart, they're casual, they last well and love them!
