Adding a interest to grey hair

I've let my hair go naturally grey/white. Its now fully grey. I like it, but I'm a bit bored and want to liven it up a bit. My original natural colour was dark brown, and I can't go back to that. But, can I have some kind of blondish highlights put through the grey? Having only ever been very dark brown in the past, I don't really know what to do. I'm going to go to a good hairdressers to talk/get advice but I'd like to have some ideas to start from and I'm really clueless. I don't want to be fully blonde, more grey with blondish streaks. Is this possible?

My hair started going grey at 22 and I'm now 54, so have had a long time to get used to it and love it. I met a woman some years ago who had lovely dyed grey hair (doing the in between thing while she was growing hers out) and she said it was a brand called Killer Strands. I don't know if it's available in the UK. They have these cool metallic grey dyes and other things. I haven't tried it myself, but this woman's hair was wonderful and she said she'd tried a lot of things before settling on this brand.
