Do I need a jacket? **pics

Interview in a couple of weeks for a PR job. I'm a scruffy newspaper journo by trade but this is a job for one of the emergency services.

So. Outfit A? Or Outfit B?

If I go with the dress would I have to wear a formal jacket too?

I'm 5ft 7in, size 14, similar hair and colouring to the model.

I think they're both fine but, given the sector, I'd say B (trousers, shirt and jacket) gives off the better vibe: business-like but purposeful. But I would tweak it slightly and go for slightly looser fitting trousers and ditch the heels.

Is B jeans or trousers? If jeans, then definitely outfit A. If trousers, then either. Dress doesn't need a jacket necessarily, but might need a cami.

I've not sourced the dress yet Anonymous - just nicked a pic from Pinterest - but I've seen a similar one in Navy in Yumi.

I think I'd prefer black though. It looks better on me.

I work with the emergency services and it is easy to feel under-dressed when meeting senior uniformed officers. Not to say trousers aren't fine but for an interview I would want to feel 'smart'.

I think you're right about the dress.
Just asked DH who works in uniform in the same organisation. He said B's too casual too, and he's usually clueless at fashion.

I said that based on a very brief experience with the fire service where it all felt a bit testosterone-ish and I would have actually felt a bit uncomfortable in a dress, however business appropriate. But that was many years ago and ise is more up to date. But if you do go for trousers then def tailored and nothing jeans-ish.

I actually know most of the people I would be working with in the department through my current job and I'd say they are 80% women, so I'm not concerned about that.

I think the fire service is the most blokey of the blue light brigade but the job isn't with them.

I've just been working out how long ago it was and it must have been at least 15 years - so hopefully things have moved on anyway!

Both styles are nice. A is pretty much my go to interview look. I wouldn't wear dress with jacket this time of year as I'd get too hot in the interview room. B is nice cos the blazer smartens the look up, and I like the white shirt layered against camel, which is less harsh and feels a bit more PR - but if you get warm and need to remove the jacket you risk starting to look scruffy.

I agree with floisme above- tweet the trouser one and you're done. Depends on what emergency services but in the police I've always felt more comfortable in trousers and have always gone with trousers to interviews.
