Waxing armpits at home....?

bear28 · 30/07/2017 10:48

I have been growing my armpit hair in preparation for waxing them. Usually I pay and get them waxed but we have a festival coming up in a few days and I was wondering... has anyone used the Veet wax strips on their armpits?

Ouch. No. Can't even do legs.

smashyourglasses · 30/07/2017 12:11

It's very painful.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 30/07/2017 12:12

I've never done it but if you're used to having them waxed the hairs don't offer much resistance after a while. I'd maybe start with those facial strips because they are smaller and see how you get on.

Guccibelt · 30/07/2017 14:59

I've done it. It wasn't too bad and the results were good.

Use hot wax (I use the cotton cloth strips - Body Shop used to sell them, you can wash/re-use)
Sugaring is brilliant is you can get hold of it, rinses off.

Or you can get Veet Hot wax.

Prep:
hair needs to be long enough.
bodyscrub/exfolliant with a non oily (I use BodyShop Pink Grapefruit -smells lovely)

Look at the direction of growth you'll find it grows up and down, you need to go against the growth to pull but with the direction to apply.

Talc - thin dusting.
I apply twice - once to pull up, once to pull down.

Thin layer of wax, put your strip on, leave a bit clear to pull.
Rub briskly, put your arm behind your head to keep the skin taut.
Keep the strip parallel to skin (so don't pull away ).
In one delft movement , go for it Grin

It gets easier and quicker. Wink

I've waxed my own bikini line before. Don't recommend. Imagine armpits are similar.

QueenMortificado · 30/07/2017 15:15

Yes I've done it. But wax strips just aren't as good as the wax you get at salons.

Now I pluck my underarms which is a very addictive feeling and gets them much smoother than waxing Blush

Ooft plucking the armpits doesn't sound appealing at all although I can imagine now you don't get many hairs!! I've got the little veet wax strips. We are in a very remote bit in the highlands so no shops except a Tesco Asda and boots. I think I'll try book in with a beautician and get it sorted :) thanks everyone x

I epilate - was teeth gritting at first because of the bulk but now I don't feel anything as its gone so fine.

CakeForBreakfast · 31/07/2017 13:07

I have. First time hurt quite a bit! Quickly becomes manageable, I wish. Had started ages ago. I chop up the regular size ones

TheLuminaries · 31/07/2017 13:11

I do, without any issues. I am not very hairy and I have a high pain threshold so I just use the wax strips and it works just fine.

NiteFlights · 31/07/2017 17:24

I do sometimes (haven't bothered this summer, just shaved) - it hurts but is very bearable. I'd start by using the specific underarm strips. Make sure you rub the wax down very well and pull off very decisively, as pp said, as parallel as you can. Do it at night so you don't need to put deodorant on for a while. It's quite satisfying.

WhereDoAllThePokemonGo · 31/07/2017 19:32

I use the Nads hot wax (it's labelled Brazilian and Bikini Wax, but I find it ideal for underarms Smile). The hair has become softer and less painful to remove with time!

Agoddessonamountaintop · 31/07/2017 20:03

It's no big deal. Just use the little ones specifically for bikini lines/underarms for the first few times. I find mine grow in all directions so have to go in at different angles - sideways as well as vertically - and they last for ages.

Watto1 · 31/07/2017 20:07

I tried but chickened out after half a strip. Painful! I ended up cutting the rest of it off with scissors. I has little lumps of wax stuck in my armpit all day. Never again! Let the experts do it

tearsinmyeyes · 31/07/2017 21:14

I find it really easy to do
I sugar my legs , Hollywood in a salon and diy my armpits with very strips . My leg hair after 20 years waxing is still horrendously thick , my Hollywood kills me from the pain , but my armpit job is completely painless I have no idea why ...
