I have been foolish! I bought a dress I liked a while ago(I don't ever wear dresses), for a wedding this weekend, got it out last night and I don't know what I was thinking... I still like the dress but it is knee length, sort of aztec print with a kimono sleeve, I NEVER show my legs, they are definitely awful, huge and trunk like, so bare leg with sandal is out, but I have no idea what type of shoe I could wear with tights, no idea about tights, I also have wide feet with bunions so shoe buying is a nightmare, and a very low budget.. around £20 or £30 if I really like the shoes and could wear them again, tho my usual style is Birkenstocks/casual Toms etc so unlikely I guess... or maybe somebody has seen a cheap but lovely dress in a sale that has some sleeve coverage, is midi or maxi with a slightly funky vibe? I could wear with sandals I already have... Panic panic panic... any help would be appreciated, thank you! Will attach picture of similar style of dress, can't find my one....

I need a style guru myself so my advice is not based on any real know how. However, my first thought is that now you have bought it and still like it I wouldn't care about chubby legs. Could you find a darker colour pair of tights or even stockings to tone in with the colours in the dress. Then look for a cheap pair of extra wide shoes. Those bunions are a real nuisance. Also, if you intend to boogie a little low heels or flat ties would be more comfortable. You have become so used to covering up that you just feel strange revealing a pair of legs which loads of people are happy showing on a daily basis. Good luck. I am sure you will look great. Just enjoy yourself.

user1486161908 · 26/07/2017 10:27

Ah Happydays, that's really nice advice, thank you! Yes I will definetely want to dance lots with my kids so am determined to feel comfortable on the day, about tights, is it sort of a rule that you can't show toes in shoes if you wear them? Like open toed sandals/peep toe wedges or sling backs, would tights be a big no for that style? Also, any tights recommendations? No idea where to look for good ones! Thanks!

I bet your legs are lovely. Everyone else will be too preoccupied with something of their own to even notice. (And I mean that in the nicest possible way!)

Wear the dress you love. If you want tights (and I always like M&S) probably steer clear of open toe sandals. Have you looked at M&S wide fit range? (I'm not employed by them!) but they fit your budget. Difficult to suggest styles - I don't know what will be comfy for you. But their court shoes are cheap and come in different colours? I also like their round toe wedges.

Equally would a bit of exfoliation and fake tan be good enough? Then you could wear sandals you already own and spend the shoe budget at the bar!

Good luck!

user1486161908 · 26/07/2017 13:24

Thanks NaughtySausage, legs are definitely not lovely, but I know what you mean about nobody else noticing. I will have a look at Marks wide range, and defo Marks for tights, that's a good idea. In terms of tanning my legs, does anybody know a good product for a non orange foolproof result? I did try some Dove body lotion with gradual tan in it, but it did nothing! Not a thing! It would be so much easier if I could get over this bare leg thing, as I have seen some sandals that I love and could wear lots after. I think I'm worried because most of the female folk there are quite young and very slender... I really don't want to feel uncomfortable all day...maybe a few alcoholic drinks early in the day could help me relax about it though! Grin

Doing a last bump, I will be at shops tomorrow, so any last minute recommendations for the best easy leg tan stuff would be hugely appreciated, or even more tights recommendations/the perfect wide foot shoe to go with it....

how about something like this, then shoes not as noticeable?

user1486161908 · 27/07/2017 17:54

Good suggestion, thanks Desperado, tho lots of reviews saying it's too long, so even if I could get it by tomorrow I wouldn't have time to get it altered...wedding is on Saturday! Thanks for reply tho!

I will get flamed for saying this on s&b.... but... could it work with leggings if you don't like tights?
I know it's some sort of heinous crime in here but if you really don't want to buy anything else, go for some leggings and a sandal. Legs covered and comfy feet. Best to be comfy and happy. (So you can dance a shed load!)

user1486161908 · 27/07/2017 20:43

Captainflash- both my husband and mother suggested this!!! It might look quite eighties.. gah i dunno... I think it wouldn't look great with the type of sandal I'm thinking of.. which are sort of espadrille slider types...but thanks for suggestion!

New Look wide fit range is always really comfy for my wide bunioned feet. Smile

cassiewoo · 27/07/2017 20:52

If M&S still do them, they had tights that made you look like you had a tan and they were toeless so good for sandals. I think they were called Sunshine or something like that.

user1486161908 · 27/07/2017 22:36

Thanks cassiewoo! Last time I tried New Look wide fit I couldn't find any that were comfy enough, tho that was years ago...I think I can get to a New Look and a Marks tomorrow, so can definitely try these things. Have just put another layer of Dove gradual tan on these legs, see if it makes a difference this time...

Sandal toe tights? M&S do them.

Naughtysausage · 28/07/2017 08:11

Sally Hansen Airbrush legs

Naughtysausage · 28/07/2017 08:14

Sorry, butterfingers.

What I meant to say was that sally Hansen airbrush legs gets good reviews. It's a spray that sort of works as a leg makeup? Almost like a cross between tights and a tan!

If not, I reckon gradual tanners take at least 3 days of applying to notice anything. So you could pop another layer on this morning and perhaps tonight?

user1486161908 · 28/07/2017 08:21

Sandal toe tights!!! What is that?? Airbrush legs, I have heard of that, will have a look in Boots. I'm off to look on Marks website for sandal toe tights! Excitedly! Are they like toe socks I wonder!?!?

user1486161908 · 28/07/2017 08:35

Hmmm sandal toe tights look like a good idea, but lots of reviews saying they rip on first try, also I think it would be tricky to have the tights match the toes, especially in a tan sort of effect! Eek!!

OP posts:
Liadain · 28/07/2017 08:40

If you can get it (I'm not sure if it's just in Ireland), Cocoa Brown is excellent tan. Or Bellamianta.

I also thought of sandal toe tights. You could try just tanning the toes if you wore the open toe tights Grin Sounds difficult though! And a bit unnecessary imo - who is really going to be looking at your toes, after all? I reckon you'd get away with it.

steppemum · 28/07/2017 08:58

Evans are good for shoes for wide feet, and they have a sale on for sheos at the moment.

user1486161908 · 28/07/2017 09:27

Just browsing online at Marks wide fit, saw this sort of thing- picture I will post... I think a sheer navy tight with this would be ok... don't you think? Am pleasantly surprised at the look of some of Marks wide shoes, and under £30! Proof will be in the pudding tho when I try some on later IRL.

Liadain do you know which shop/chemist may stock CocoaBrown? I'll be near all big chemists like boots/Superdrug today!

ElfrideSwancourt · 28/07/2017 09:39

M&S open-toe tights look great but hook between your toes so can be uncomfortable although I find after a few drinks I don't notice so much!

user1486161908 · 28/07/2017 09:41

Don't think there's an Evans anywhere I'm going, so that's out.
