Are Hush dresses really as massive as people say?

I've loved this dress from afar for ages. Yesterday I discovered I had a big party to go to the week after getting my veins done (oh the glamour) so would need a maxi and I immediately remembered this lovely number. It has tiny gold stars!

I'm definitely a size 16 in regular clothes and last night the only size left was 16. Fate! I ordered - not cheap as I live in Ireland and it's €6 shipping and God knows how much to return.

But now this morning loads of sizes have come in and I keep reading how massive Hush dresses are on people! Noooooo!

Is this thing going to be a sparkly tent on me? Or are rumours exaggerated?

I'm a 16/18 in most shops and find the XL or 18 at Hush fits me really well. I have a classic 'curvy' figure, so waist considerably smaller than boobs/hips if that helps?

I bet it will be fine, if you want a relaxed maxi-dress. If you don't like it you can always PM me and I'll have it off you!

I promised I'd update! Well firstly kudos to Hush delivery, they got to the wilds of Ireland in 2 days.

BUT it's going back. The material is really disappointing, it's just rather hard thin cotton like those souvenir tea towels you get in Lanzarote.

It is also just a shapeless column. No particular waftiness. It makes me look like tree trunk!

The side view. Whilst it hides the mum tum it also obliterates all bust and all bum.

Surprisingly the sizing isn't that horrendous around the chest. But the dress itself is really not party worthy.

It is a bit disappointing. You can definitely find nicer.
Have you looked in Monsoon? I have a couple of their jersey maxis and they are very flattering.

Bagsonthebrain · 28/07/2017 20:02

Yes, Monsoon is the next port of call I think, though there's not much maxi wise in their site at present. And I am a bit fat at the moment which always makes maxi dress shopping a bit fraught cos of the dreaded maternity look.

Frustrating!

I bought this dress like a sheep when you first posted about it, and it hadn't arrived yet when I saw your update and was kicking myself! I'm also overseas so had to pay the ridiculously high postage.

But it's arrived and I love it! I'm huge and flabby and all my curves are over exaggerated by the extra fat i have from having had a baby last month but this dress magically hides it all! It's a bit tight (had to downsize due to stock levels!!) but hopefully as the weight goes it'll get better.

So sorry it didn't work for you OP but thank you!

As an alternative, there is a beautiful floaty stars and moons print dress new into Zara this week?

I love that their sizes come up big! Always makes me feel good shopping there, vanity sizing isn't it called?

neveradullmoment99 · 09/08/2017 11:58

I am sure that dress was the inner lining of a dress that was in their AW16 collection. On top was a fine see through dress so that you could see the lining and little stars through it. The dress seems a bit of a con to me and although i like it, it kind of annoyed me when i saw it for that reason. You can see in the pic posted, the lining peaking through.

I think you're right! But maybe they had lots left over if the delicate chiffony bits got damaged, and they are selling them for £40 less. I'd be annoyed if it was the same price!!

neveradullmoment99 · 09/08/2017 18:17

I am not sure the over dress had the split tbh. I think the dress was much dearer with the over dress. Just doesnt seem right selling the inner part to me and passing it off as a new style of dress.
You do suit it though :)

abigailgabble · 09/08/2017 18:32

yes everything from hush is massive!

poppym12 · 09/08/2017 19:27

Sorry to jump in but if anyone sees the Hush 'piper' dress in black anywhere, please let me know as its sold out everywhere I've looked. I usually wear a size 16 but given the style and people saying the sizes are huge, I could probably get away with a 14.

Bagsonthebrain · 09/08/2017 19:47

Donostia it looks miles better on you!

I've been prevaricating over that Zara dress for the past hour. There isn't one anywhere near me and I suspect it'll be too small as it goes up to a Large and their large tends to be 12/14 and that dress has also got an elasticated waist I.e. cheesewire. Zara isn't overly friendly to size 16s sadly.

It's flipping BEAUTIFUL though. SadSadSad

Donostia · 09/08/2017 19:58

sorry but Grin at cheesewire!!

Zara sizing is all over the place. I've got stuff in S - XL from there! & Other stories is another place that often has starry dresses (Ive fixated on the stars!!)

Donostia · 09/08/2017 20:02

not stars but pretty!

Donostia · 09/08/2017 20:03

stars but maybe a bit dressing gowny

abigailgabble · 10/08/2017 23:28

poppy dammit I have one but it's a 10 Sad meant to send it back but forgot and went on holiday. BNWT! anyone?!

poppym12 · 11/08/2017 08:15

Please stretch it abigail Grin
