How to improve my make up

So I currently use a bourjois foundation (which I apply with my fingers - should I get a brush?) some collection 2000 powder, mascara and occasionally eyeliner. I'd like to improve my make up so it provides better coverage and hides my bags/wrinkles (37 so not loads but they're developing!) and I'm not sure where to start.
Do I need a primer? Concealer? What could I do to improve my eye make up? I've looked at a few videos on YouTube but they're all a bit too much. And also use expensive make up and I'm definitely on the budget side. Happy to spend time doing it and don't want it to look too heavy.

With foundation, try using a Beautyblender with your foundation instead of your fingers.

Is that one of those sponge things shaped like a tear drop? I've tried brushes before and found they left brush marks I had to rub in so stopped

Yes, these don't leave marks. Just wet the blender until it expands, then squeeze it until no water comes out. I usually dot the foundation around my face, then dab the blender across my face. There's many videos on youtube showing exactly how to do it, and different methods of applying for different coverage etc.

Try this works in transit primer. It's amazing I use that and a bourgeois foundation applied with my fingers.
