Have you bought a maxi coat?

I've seen people swishing around in maxi coats looking a bit cool. Usually teamed with ankle grazing trousers and a pair of flats.

Have you got a maxi coat and would you recommend yours?

I still have a couple somewhere and I am stupidly excited to hear his Grin I shall dig them out along with my knee length boots and see how they look.

InigoTaran · 24/07/2017 09:31

Oh I'm going to be inadvertently fashionable this year as I have 4 long coats! Grin

I have one in my basket at the moment and trying to decide!

RatOnnaStick · 24/07/2017 09:46

I have one from 1999 with a detachable faux fur collar. Wonder if it would do? (Or even fit Hmm).

yomellamoHelly · 24/07/2017 09:54

Just done a google search to see what you were talking about and am now really excited. Had one '98-ish and loved it to bits. Got loads of compliments for it and couldn't believe I owned something so nice. Wore it to death.

This is the kind of thing I mean. I'm most tempted!

You know what, I had one just like that camel one and got it shortened. It looked like shit after that. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I'll dig out the others when I get home.

Judydreamsofhorses · 24/07/2017 14:03

I have one which is a long "duster" coat in an olive green colour - I got it in Topshop last year. I also have a long charcoal grey wool one from New Look. Both just fasten with two buttons, single breasted, so not much good when it's cold or windy.

I had a black one years ago but always felt like an undertaker!

misscockerspaniel · 24/07/2017 15:13

I would love one with a faux fur collar and cuffs.

Violetcharlotte · 24/07/2017 15:25

I looked at maxi coats last year but never bought one. May go for it this year though as they can look great.

rightknockered · 24/07/2017 15:44

I have a navy one from Topshop last year. Loved wearing it

Gotanewusernamenow · 24/07/2017 15:47

I'm too short.
The coat would wear me Grin

Yeah I think a black one would be a bit too much for me. I think I'd feel a bit too Matrix-y. But a shade of camel or olive would work.

Ok had a quick rummage and found two. One is an ankle length 1950s swing coat with a massive collar. It's fabulous but it's black which no longer does me any favours plus I'd forgotten how OTT it is. It was made for wearing on 5th Avenue over a Dior New Look frock and with a small dog under your arm. I'm not sure how I can carry it off and I can't remember how I did it last time.

The second is full length leather.... no, listen, listen, not shiny black Herr Flick leather. It's dark brown and very worn, almost shabby. If Columbo had worn a leather coat it would have been like this. I will test drive it on my husband who egged me on to buy it in the first place.

And talking of Columbo has reminded me I also want a full length raincoat, like the one David Bowie wore on the Live Aid video (with Mick Jagger).

I'm short too and I think I can wear them but the proportions all have to be right which is why just shortening them doesn't normally work.

I've ordered this one

Yes, I'm hoping it will be great for rainy spring, summer and autumn days or slinging on over long boots on milder winter days.

Floisme · 24/07/2017 22:29

Nice mac. I nearly bought one in a charity shop today on the strength of this thread but it was too big on the shoulders. What with tailoring and now maxi coats, this Autumn just sounds better and better.
