Need suggestions for a dress for a wedding, please help!

I'm attending a wedding - all day, possibly outside, in Scotland early September. I don't wear dresses much but it feels like a dress sort of wedding.

I'm 52, 5' 10"ish, size 16ish. Hate my upper arms and I have a bit of a tummy, don't like my knees much either. My chest area is fine, lower arms and ankles fine. My narrowest bit is just below my bust. I'm thinking maybe A-line or wrap style? Can't wear too high heels. Dress can be sleeveless but I'd need a jacket/cardi etc

Fair completion, grey/blond shoulder length hair - suit spring type colours/navy - Can't wear flesh tones or naturals

Don't want to spend too much - maybe up to about £70/80.

Anyone fancy a challenge?

I love this only 12 or 14 left in stock, but hits all your other criteria, might be worth trying the 14. Phase 8 can come up large (I'd say I am 16ish too, but a 14 from here fits comfortably]].

I love that and I've ordered it but not too optimistic of it fitting. I was an eighteen but I've lost weight and a Next 16 fits comfortably and sometimes has extra room but I'm aware their sizing is big. It's the arms I'm most worried about. I can lose a bit more weight but at this age, getting my arms thinner is not the easiest. Fingers crossed though and thank you.

I'm a 16 with a tummy and this looks lovely with a short cardigan. Wearing it on Saturday to a wedding myself!

Beautiful colours Lady, I bet it looks lovely on. It's a little short on the knee for me though, what are your thoughts about the sizing?

Phase8 sizing is relatives generous but not as much so as next, I don't think. THe exact length depends on your height, it says the model is 5'9".

MrsLettuce · 24/07/2017 21:27

But TBH I'd just go with sleeves. Harder to find but so much easier to wear. Will have a rummage. I'd not seen you say you were 5'10", sorry.

May be a silly question but are you set on wearing a dress? Asking as a friend of mine has recently attended a couple of weddings - once in a suit and once in a very smart jumpsuit.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/07/2017 21:35

Thanks Mrs Lettuce, yes, I'd reckon the length would sit fairly similar to the one the model and it's a bit shorter than I'd be comfortable with. I guess with Next sizing it is difficult to tell as it's never consistent. I'm wearing size 16 chinos that I can fit a fist into the waistband in one colour and nearly two in the other colour but have a pair of tailored trousers in the same size that I can't fasten comfortably. I have the same trousers in an 18 and they are so big that I can go to the loo without unfastening them!

I've ordered the first one from Phase Eight now so I'll see what that's like and then look for something similar if if it doesn't fit.

Yeah, sizing is so bloody annoying. A little consistency would be so helpful.

I don't want to wear a suit as I wear one for work, plus I'm going with DH and two older teen DSs who will all be wearing suits, I feel the need to be more feminine to counteract the testosterone :o

I'm not really a jumpsuit kind of person and maybe it's a bit too young for me anyway.

Normal for me going out would be jeans and a top/blouse or chinos/linen trousers for casual. I don't really do many formal events any more, usually try to get out of them where possible but unfortunately despite neither DH or I liking the groom, it's a family thing and the fallout from not attending wouldn't be good.
