Opinions on Thinx

Who's used Thinx, the "period pants"? I'm really attracted to this idea from an environmental point of view and also because I sometimes leak during the night on the first or second night of my period.

However, I'm worried about:

  • odour (I'm a teacher and would hate my students to deal with a smelly teacher for 3-5 days a month)
  • heat / sensitivity (usually I wear loose-ish cotton knickers that I rinse out again by hand after a machine wash to ensure no traces of washing powder are left on them)
  • fallibility

Has anyone used them and can comment on their experience, please?

I've not heard of these but assuming you've looked into reusable pads? My pill has taken away my period but my mum made me some (she's a dressmaker) and they changed my life during periods

Thanks, marinathehungina, I have looked into reusable pads, but the ones I've seen look quite bulky? I would have to buy them as I don't know anyone who could make them (I do sew but don't trust myself to make an effective pad Blush ).

I think they look great! Am 14weeks pregnant and am deffo buying some after baby arrives and periods are back to normal

From reading I think the smell is contained but not sure about breathability

Also think if you've a very heavy flow you may need to use tampons or menstrual cup along with for first couple of days

Brilliant idea though, aren't they?!

LockedOutOfMN · 23/07/2017 15:32

ForumUsername Yes, that's what I thought. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Judging by my rate of getting through sanitary towels and conversations with friends I think I have a "regular" flow on the first two days and a lightish one after that. I tend to leak on the first night as I always feel hot and uncomfortable on the first night of my period which leads to lots of twisting and turning in bed.

I'd def buy if they were cheaper !

They are bulkier than normal pads but much comfort - with anything other than a liner I feel like I'm wearing a nappy - with the reusable its just like cloth padding in your knickers. Moves with you and doesn't feel plasticky if that makes sense?

Comfier*!
