Have you had your colours done?

How accurate is it and is it worth the money?
Is it possible to do them yourself?

Anybody like to have a go at 'doing' me? Grin

I am
Fairly tanned/olivey toned skin yeah I know, skin damaged
Dyed mid- blonde hair (used to be mousey as a child)
Dark Blue eyes
Red cheeks if hot, but mainly olivey.

OK, so I did an on-line quiz and it said I'm a Summer. Confused which is all cool tones, but I would have thought tanned/olive was more Autumn/Spring which are warm tones?

Help.

All colours have warm and cool variants, so it's not a given that (for example) all oranges are warm and all blues are cool. Which is a bit counter-intuitive.

I think the wheel showing all the palettes is helpful when you're self-diagnosing.

An advantage of sticking to one season is that most of the colours go together. My wardrobe is easy to mix and match now, things don't clash.

I had it done by House of Colour. She diagnosed me as a Deep Winter, but I have paleish pinky skin, green-grey eyes and mousy hair. My self diagnosis, based on lots of googling, is that I'm a Smokey Soft Summer- the darkest variety of Summer, but still Summer rather than Winter. I'd save your money and do it yourself. Try www.prettyyourworld.com- the system there has 16 variant seasons, so more subtle and accurate.

IlonaRN · 22/07/2017 21:56

I had mine done, and it was definitely worth it. I went with friends, and could see the difference the right colours made to them, and them to me.
It has definitely saved money long term, and time as well, as now even my boyfriend knows when something is "not my colour", and agrees I look best if thing are " my colours".

Imstyledilemma · 22/07/2017 21:58

Where's the best place to go - to have it done?

This is my worry.
I don't want to spend a £100 only for them to get it wrong. Which happens.

I havent paid to have mine done
I looked on Pinterest and figured it out
Interestingly it's all the colours I tend to wear/am drawn to anyway! 😁
There is also some great tips on there 're body shapes
Finally at 44 i know what suits and flatters me

Rhubarbtart9 · 23/07/2017 07:29

Are there any free online ways of working out colours? I just need a quick bit of guidance rather then an hour sat with lots of textile samples and lots of fuss

Mrsmartell08 · 23/07/2017 07:31

Try Pinterest
Just search for colour pallettes and it will show you (usually with celeb pics) which colour you are.
Hair refers to your natural hair colour!! Not dyed.
I'm deep winter

Rinceoir · 23/07/2017 08:36

I've been thinking about this- I am fairly sure I'm a winter. Very pale skin with a blue/pink undertone. Can see blue veins at my wrist (and many other places!). Dark hair naturally. My eyes are the problem- I have iris heterochromia- and have a clear amber ring surrounding my pupils, with spokes of green, grey and blue radiating out. They look a different colour in different lights. How do you deal with that?

I do look best in strong colours- royal blues, bright red, cerise pink, black are my best colours. Look awful in beige/camel/brown.

cathyandclare · 23/07/2017 08:45

Rinceoir, I'm like you dark hair, pale skin with green/blue/grey eyes depending on the light and what I'm wearing. I'm a winter.
Good in black, navy, cobalt, red, emerald, turquoise and dark pine green.

I can only wear a taupey beige, look ill in anything creamy

Rinceoir · 23/07/2017 08:49

Thanks Cathy- I think I must be a winter- look terrible in creams, khakis etc. Love all the colours you've mentioned.

Floisme · 23/07/2017 09:06

I've not had mine done. I think I can already tell what colours suit me and I don't see how finding out what season I am would add anything.

I also think they sometimes make it sound unnecessarily complicated. What works for me is just avoiding black, white, anything too bright and anything very pale. Most colours in between look fine although I have my favourites.

Allwashedup · 23/07/2017 11:26

I had mine done by CMB - colours and make up - but sadly I found the consultant to be very rude and patronising. Also part 2 of the consult was rushed as her husband was in the next room and wanted to come into the kitchen which is where we were discussing my wardrobe/items of clothing.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 23/07/2017 11:42

I would like to have this done. I use fake tan in the summer as I am deathly pale and I think it covers my cellulite. Would that mean that my colours would only work for 2/3 of the year.

Violetcharlotte · 23/07/2017 12:48

I've been thinking about getting my colours done for a while. I suspected I was an Autumn and the link Casmama posted confirmed that. These do seem to be the colours I'm most drawn too and Autumn is my favourite season.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 23/07/2017 15:07

I had mine done online through style-yourself-confident.com Pamela is lovely and it was money very well spent for me. The website gives you loads of hints and tips too.
Shopping is so much easier, like others have said I can immediately ignore loads of clothes due to their colour not suiting me, and I find that really helpful.

kneesupfatty · 23/07/2017 15:17

I've had mine done (I'm a Spring) and feel that it was £100 well spent. I thought I had a reasonably good idea beforehand of which colours suited me, but a few of my 'wow' colours (coral, bright apple green and soft buttercup yellow) were colours that I would never have chosen before. My other 'wow' colours were bright red, cobalt blue, bright navy and turquoise - all colours that I've always loved. I had mine done 3 years ago and am now starting to see the true benefit as my wardrobe is almost all in my colours and everything compliments each other.

Artyfarty555 · 23/07/2017 18:37

I had mine done a year ago and had a great time, just seeing which colours suited me. I am a spring too, but a blue spring. Another lady was a spring too but she was a pure spring or something and suited more subtle spring shades than me....mine are really bright, turquoise, coral, bright navy and l was a bit apprehensive at first. When my colours done it was autumn and l did struggle...khaki looks drab on me, but I've enjoyed wearing lovely colours this spring/ summer. If l wear muted colours now it doesn't seem to suit me.
I would say use Pinterest now but book in for a birthday treat...it may be that you are on the cusp between two seasons. I am more summer than winter even though l am spring...but l can wear both gold and silver jewellery.

BroomstickOfLove · 23/07/2017 18:50

I'm fairly sure I'm a soft summer, but I also look good in soft autumn's greens and browns.

EvelynWardrobe · 23/07/2017 19:01

Is there a celeb that you look like, OP?

I am a fatter version of Robin Wright, and her wardrobe from House of Cards would suit me (lots of navy, grey and black, no browns or beiges). My hair is naturally mousey, and I have pink toned skin.

SpeckledyHen · 23/07/2017 19:22

I had mine done many years ago by House Of Colour and it was worth every penny ,and was a lot of fun too . It's saved me a fortune too and so much time in choosing stuff. Everything in the wardrobe goes together with so many variations .
I also followed it up with a style & make - up day which also clarified what to buy or avoid .

TheDowagerCuntess · 23/07/2017 19:31

I still can't get my head around tanned people usually being 'cool', as a op said upthread. Is that really true?

kneesupfatty · 23/07/2017 20:18

As I understand it, your season is based on your natural skin tone, eye colour and hair colour, so it doesn't matter whether or not you are tanned. Certainly, I'm quite tanned at the moment and my colours still suit me just as much.

Intransige · 23/07/2017 20:34

I don't think it's tanned people usually being cool, is it? It's olive skinned people usually being cool.

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 23/07/2017 20:42

Thanks kneesup.
