Not a leather jacket

I do not like the woman-of-certain-age-leather-jacket-and-skinnies/dress/insert clothing item of choice look ON ME. I have an ancient denim jand a blue cotton military jacket and would like something a bit heavier and/or black. I'm stuck for ideas.

Any clues, oh wise hive mind?

Any idea why it doesn't work for you? It might help you come up with alternatives.

I don't look great in a biker jacket, which surprised me but I think it's because it's too busy. I have another leather jacket which is more bomber style and although it's quite old and shabby (charity shop find) I think it suits me better because although it's still a cropped length, there's also less going on.

Other things that I think work for me are a knee length, straight up and down leather coat and a tweed jacket - both simple and streamlined. I also like a trench coat, even though they're bleeding useless in actual rain, just as long as it's not beige.

Hi Flo, thanks for your reply. I loathe the shiny leathery-ness and clattery hardware and general FUSS. I like softer things, not cluttered with a simple shape and as I'm a skinny shortarse, tend to get along with kids sizes and french brands such as APC. I have a knee length wool a-line very plain trench, a short (kids) band jacket and the battered denim, but am looking for a slightly more robust short jacket to go over anything from a maxi or floofty skirt to rolled up boyfriend jeans or tailored harem pants.

Tricky old business this getting dressed!

Dunno, black blazer maybe?

A black blazer or any colour on top of fitted jeans looks good

Velvet blazer?

Boucle or Chanel style jackets usually suit petite women. This is yellow as it's much easier to see the styling on something bright than black.

I bought a lovely jersey blazer from Uniqlo in black a few weeks ago, and it goes with all the things you said. It's so soft and I love it so much I bought the grey one too Blush

If I suited black I would look for a good quality tuxedo jacket and wear it with everything,
