Shift Dresses

Where can I find simple shift dresses that come to above the knee please? They seem to be out of fashion at the moment, except for some that are too long. Any ideas?

Warehouse had similar sounding dresses online.

But if you have found some already, it would be very easy to get them taken up. Shouldn't cost too much at all.

I've seen some on ASOS and in M&S

Could you get long ones taken up?

Find a local dressmaker and get them to make you a few, they are very simple to do so won't cost the earth.

I have had the same problem this summer. I found a few on etsy - casual, though. And looks like I will have to resort to making my own for the smarter ones.

Thanks everyone, but I should have said not too expensive and that I can try on before buying so Hobbs, Phase Eight, John Lewis, M&S not usually suitable. No ASOS where I live.
It's a pity if Warehouse has some online, it doesn't have any in the shop.
The trouble with buying a long one and getting it taken up is that I want to see exactly how it will look before I buy it. I'm not sure looking in the mirror holding the bottom of the dress is the same thing.

Take some pins with you and turn the hem up in the dressing room so you get a good view of what it will look like (provided that the fabric won't be damaged doing this - most should be fine)

Don't forget a dressmaker can alter the dress other than taking it up too i.e. tighten the hemline to give more shape etc but it will cost more.

I have a couple I got on sale from wee.laredoute.co.uk

Gwenhwyfar · 22/07/2017 10:27

Thanks Amee, but I don't want to do online. I want to be able to touch it and try it on before buying.

Theycalledme - I do have a long one from Phase Eight, but it's an unflattering shape as well as being too long - not sure what I was thinking when I bought that one. I now try to avoid 'mother of the bride' shops. I don't want to age before my time.
