Do you re use last years Autumn/winter clothes?

Or is it all brand new things every season?
Me personally I have a lot of things from last autumn/winter that's still pretty much brand new so il just be adding a few bits and bobs..long sleeve tops and a pair of ankle boots maybe.
It always seems like the same thing coming out every year.

I've got clothes older than my kids Hmm I normally buy a few new bits every autumn and always new jeans. I assumed that was what everybody did.

BogQueens · 19/07/2017 09:41

What Dubious said, pretty much, only as my child is only five, I'll say I have clothes from the 1990s. I don't buy many clothes, but I go for good things, and look after them. Surely no one buys clothes to last only a year?

PossumInAPearTree · 19/07/2017 09:45

Ive got clothes which have been coming out for the last twenty years!

BiddyPop · 19/07/2017 09:45

Absolutely re-use a lot of things!

My good coat is only 10 years old, but my decent raincoat is almost 20 years old and still works perfectly, just gets a decent wash and re-waterproofing every year.

There are many things in my wardrobe that don't need regular replacement - I'll get a few fashion items, a few things to augment my stocks as other things wear out/get torn/I change size or shape again...and just to refresh things a little. But the vast majority of my autumn/winter wardrobe will be the same as last year.

Who could possibly be bothered to find and buy all their clothes from scratch each season?

Like PPs, i buy some really good pieces, which i then wear for decades. I usually stock up on basics when the colour palette i prefer is available. Some seasons, just don't buy anything. Bliss.

Boredomismyenemy · 19/07/2017 09:50

It would be hellish, not to mention expensive, to have to shop for new every year. I've bought few, but good quality items, over the past 5 years and I buy the odd cheaper item to keep them current. The blouse I am wearing today is over 15 years old. Grin

Miaoriely2017 · 19/07/2017 09:50

The only thing I really buy new every autumn is long sleeve basic tips and vests to wear underneath jumpers.
I normally buy cheap ones and after a year they pretty worn.
Not sure whether to buy some more expensive ones that might last longer.
Where's good for basics?
I normally go to H&M

I only buy new when I need to. Was horrified recently to have but TWO new bras! One is bad enough, TWO!!!!! And why is it when you get black and white in same style and size, one always fits better than the other Hmm

silkpyjamasallday · 19/07/2017 09:54

I have clothes that are older than me, things I've nicked from my DM (hoarder so has all her clothes from her 20s still) and I have clothes from the 50s that were given to me by my gran. My main autumn coat is a long camel wool Aquascutum coat from the 70s. I probably buy a few new bits each season, but I use the word new loosely, I buy most things second hand. I am not one to subscribe to the capsule wardrobe thing though, I only get rid of something if it is totally worn out and unrepairable. I'm grateful to the people who do have a clear out each season though as they supply the majority of my wardrobe!

mummyretired · 19/07/2017 09:56

Today's outfit is three years old, I have much older ones...if not worn out before and not special favourites, I usually ditch 'regular' clothes after around 5 years. I confidently expect that when M&S autumn range comes in it will be almost indistinguishable from what I already have. Coats and infrequently worn items like bikinis and long evening dress go on forever.

I also bought a load of stuff in the summer sales and put it away for next year.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/07/2017 09:57

I have some 11 year old vests from Top Shop which are still going strong, so I don't think that things really need to be expensive to last, but they have stayed in good condition while my H&M t-shirts have gone bobbly and lost their shape.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/07/2017 10:22

I love autumn/winter clothes, and tend to buy more/spend more than I do in summer - I know I will wear them. I have a lot of stuff I've had for years, but will definitely buy some new things too. Usually I am consumed by a hunt for boots because my feet are small, wide, and awkward, but I found perfect ones last year and bought a second pair when they went into the sale.

Alcea · 19/07/2017 10:27

I buy new ankle boots every Autumn.
I might buy one or 2 tops, but I really have enough of everything.

I put away a big bag of Winter clothes a few months ago, so will bring them down in November ish

Floisme · 19/07/2017 10:45

Autumn is my favourite time of year for clothes and I'm planning a bit of a change in style change this year so yes I will be on the hunt for more stuff I don't need but I'm hoping to find most of it either second hand or at the back of my own cupboard.

PNGirl · 19/07/2017 10:48

Depends what it is. I will normally keep things like cotton 3/4 sleeve tops for a few years, and jeans until they wear at the thighs (which to be honest can happen in one AW season anyway) but I've just cleared out 3 cardigans from last season which were both bobbly and a bit misshapen. They were only cheap Gap Outlet ones.

I'll probably replace the cardigans, and buy another leather jacket.

Groupie123 · 19/07/2017 10:51

I only buy autumn appropriate clothes, even in summer. They can be layered up for winter & most work in our British summers too even with the heatwaves we've had this year.

Miaoriely2017 · 19/07/2017 12:53

I ended up buying a burgundy cord skirt today which is probably more Autumn appropriate than summer but I guess you can never be too prepared

MachineBee black clothes in the same size as other colours always come up smaller due to the dye.

sanitygirl · 19/07/2017 12:58

Whaaat? Of course I reuse. Do people really get rid of everything and start afresh each season? That would be madness! Terrible for the environment and incredibly expensive.

kel1234 · 19/07/2017 13:00

I wear the same clothes I've had for years. I've never been someone who buys new every season, seems very pointless and like a waste of money to me.
I buy new clothes when I need them. That's it.

NameChanger22 · 19/07/2017 13:01

I haven't bought any clothes for over 3 years. I have lots of clothes that suit me. I don't need to buy any.

Brakebackcyclebot · 19/07/2017 13:03

Eh? I buy new clothes when my old ones wear out. I buy new boots when the old ones leak/have holes. My black knee high boots are older than DS (13).

Sometimes of course I just fancy something so I buy it.

Who on earth buys new clothes every season?

PoppyPopcorn · 19/07/2017 13:03

Brand new every season is incredibly wasteful.

thereallochnessmonster · 19/07/2017 13:04

I buy new clothes when I need them! I have trousers that are 15 years old... Don't care about high fashion. Buy a few new pieces each season and keep them for years.
