Or is it all brand new things every season?
Me personally I have a lot of things from last autumn/winter that's still pretty much brand new so il just be adding a few bits and bobs..long sleeve tops and a pair of ankle boots maybe.
It always seems like the same thing coming out every year.

I don't replace my whole wardrobe every year and I doubt the OP does either but I do enjoy 'topping up' and buying one or two (or sometimes more) new things every season as I enjoy clothes and if I see something I like and I can afford it I buy it. I usually buy new boots every winter because boots are my passion and I feel that a nice pair of boots breathes new life into older outfits.

I love autumn/winter clothes and the bulk of my wardrobe is built around them. I love clothes and regularly pass things on charity so I keep a capsule size wardrobe but at needs updating as clothes start looking tatty after a year.

Same with boots. I love them and buy several new ones every year. I buy a lot of my stuff second hand such as cashmere to keep costs down but am then able to refresh it when bored.

Oh I don't just but clothes to replace others. I buy things that I think are lovely, for that reason alone, and they're the things that tend to be brought out each year. Basics I replace as they need it. I think that's the way that most people who see clothes as more than just body coverings work isn't it?

LaArdilla · 19/07/2017 17:03

What sort of weirdo tosses out all their clothes and buys new things every season?

This isn't 'Rich Kids of Instagram'.

I replace basics as they wear out or look tatty, but usually with something very similar. That's jeans and t-shirts and cashmere v neck sweaters. The accessories and fashion items usually cost a lot less, except shoes and boots; those tend to be updated with something from the sales that was a bit too fashion-y for my local market, but which I judge to have mileage.

And, once in a blue moon, I buy something really expensive and classic that will last the rest of my days. Last year it was an autumn coat, for evenings, funerals (I am 60 so will be attending more I fear) etc, but which will also look fabulous over a simple skirt or trousers for ever because it is absolutely plain but perfectly cut.

For the rest, I am planning to learn to sew well, and will use second hand and charity shops. Plus underwear.

Not boasting, but we're not watching every penny and I could afford to splurge in new each season if I wanted. But I choose not to for lots of reasons - I'm not a slave to the latest trends, buy things deigned to last and really hate waste and fast fashion chains like primark. Ido buy the odd items in primark - I have a pair of linen cropped "holiday trousers" which are probably 5 years old and will last another 5. But the "wear it twice and discard" ethos is just SO wrong.

JaceLancs · 19/07/2017 21:02

I buy clothes all the time - but even I don't replace every season - most of my wardrobe is plain classics which just get recycled every year till they wear out

SukiTheDog · 19/07/2017 21:03

I bring the same items out year after year. I dont know anyone who has a new wardrobe each "season"!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/07/2017 21:03

Who the fuck replaces their clothes every season?

Why would you do it?

Agoddessonamountaintop · 19/07/2017 21:16

My weight and shape have changed a lot over the last year or so, and I've recently become obsessed with finding bras that don't hurt my shoulders but hitch my boobs up to where they always used to be. I think I've bought about six now Blush. It also means I need new clothes for my holiday later this summer, as it's unlikely that the extra stone will be gone by then.
I definitely don't automatically buy new every season, but I do like new clothes. And when I'm happy with my figure I buy more as I find that more things I like suit me. Never have any luck with charity shops, but I do sometimes find things on Brand Alley. I hate shopping now, though, as I know what clothes should look like on me and feel despair at what's actually reflected in the mirror.
I do have things as old as maybe ten years, but should probably chuck them out as, even if I could wear the size ten strappy tops again they wouldn't look right now that the ravages of time have kicked in. And no one needs to see my 54y/old arse in skinny jeans.

Is this the thread to admit that when DH and I were invited to an 80s party last year... we didn't need to buy anything for it?

StillMedusa · 20/07/2017 23:52

I still have a Barbour that my Mum bought me to go to University in 1986 Grin It refuses to wear out or die so it gets reproofed once a year and I may be buried in it one day!
Jeans I generally replaced most years as I wear them daily .I work in special ed and my favourite pair now have a hole in the knee made large by kids picking at it. Last day of term tomorrow and then they have to go in the bin.
Boots ... wear til the heels have gone or they split. Usually get about 4-5 years out of them.
But I usually buy cheap H+M stuff for daily wear in school and refresh that every autumn...school paint often doesn't come out. Long sleeve basics and a few jumpers are my staple go-to clothes for work, and I buy those every year.

diodati · 21/07/2017 00:14

Of course. I wear the same stuff every year until it either falls apart or looks ridiculously dated. Jeans, boots, jumpers, bright red duffle coat, black pencil skirt & blouse or sheath LBD for going out. I'm always on the lookout for something new & gorgeous, of course.Smile
