Or is it all brand new things every season?
Me personally I have a lot of things from last autumn/winter that's still pretty much brand new so il just be adding a few bits and bobs..long sleeve tops and a pair of ankle boots maybe.
It always seems like the same thing coming out every year.

No way would I buy new every year/season. Only when I need or see something I quite like. Most of my own clothes now come from charity shops though and they're quite often from high end retailers so the quality is good. Shoes are probably the only items I buy new, I find it hard to fork out so much on some items.

MonaTheMoaner · 19/07/2017 13:15

I can't afford to buy all new so I reuse things like jeans, boots, coats etc then buy a few new cheaper items like scarves and jumpers.

Ellapaella · 19/07/2017 13:19

Autumn/Winter is my favourite season as I love boots and cardigans and sweaters so usually end up buying more new stuff in winter than I ever do in the summer. Also winter goes on a lot longer in this country where as summer is over after about 4 months so I rarely buy new summer clothes. Come September I will be on the hunt for some new boots and this year I will be getting a new coat as I've had the same one for years now.

eurochick · 19/07/2017 13:20

Surely no one replaces their entire wardrobe every year?!?

CrowyMcCrowFace · 19/07/2017 13:24

Wait, what? Black clothes come up smaller because of the dye Goingtobeawesome?!

They never told me that at Fat Goth Bird Club... Grin.

Same as everyone else, anyway. I buy things I need (eg. new jeans, boots because old ones are tatty) & occasionally things I like as a treat. Most of my seasonal clothes last me years.

taybert · 19/07/2017 13:27

Aside from the obvious cost/waste implications I absolutely love some of my clothes- I'm really sad when they're worn out and can't be worn any more!

theconstantinoplegardener · 19/07/2017 13:28

I keep my clothes until they wear out. I don't enjoy clothes shopping, whereas getting out my winter sweaters after they've been packed away for the summer feels like meeting up with old friends! It seems such a waste of resources to buy clothes for only one or two seasons.

MirandaWest · 19/07/2017 13:30

I buy new clothes when I need them. I have some clothes that are quite a few years old - I can't imagine buying all new clothes for a new season.

Bellaposy · 19/07/2017 13:30

People buy a whole new wardrobe each season?! How wasteful! I'll pick up a couple of new bits as things wear out/don't fit (just had a baby) but nothing more than that. I've got things at least 10 years old, probably much older that are still going fine.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/07/2017 13:31

I just took delivery of two lovely jumpers, from the dregs of the Whistles sale - I've packaged them back up after trying them on and put them on top of the wardrobe. As soon as it hits August I get excited for autumn clothes!

Goingtobeawesome · 19/07/2017 13:32

Crowy - yep. I bought jeans in blue and black. Blue fit fine, black too small. Found the same with bras too.

ToothTrauma · 19/07/2017 13:32

There are people who buy brand new clothes every season? How the other half live ShockGrin

URaflutteringcunt · 19/07/2017 13:35

I get new boots but that's because I wear cheap one a that have had it by the time the year rolls round. Might get a new coat if the old one is looking rubbish (or is just annoying me, sometimes my clothes just piss me off and I need new ones 😂)

AdoraBell · 19/07/2017 13:36

Yep. If it still fits as is still in good enough condition it gets used. While I do like buying new clothes I don't have the energy to do it every bloody season. There are more important things to spend money and time on that clothes shopping.

I alos have some things that are older than my DC, and they are 15.

LightastheBreeze · 19/07/2017 13:38

Most of my stuff is out of date anyway as I tend to mainly buy in sales and wear quite a lot of the newer stuff the following year. I am in last years Next and M & S at the moment. Some of my clothes especially summer ones have been coming out for years.

Floisme · 19/07/2017 13:45

I hope this isn't going to turn into one of those 'I can feed a family of 5 on a chicken for a week' type of threads. I regularly wear clothes that are older than me but I also buy some new things every season. Yes I do. And what's more, I'm looking forward to it because I like thinking about this kind of stuff.

DIYNOVICE · 19/07/2017 13:50

I usually get a couple of new jumpers but that's because the quality of jumpers are so bad nowadays, they're usually worn out I.e lost shape and bobbled by end of the season.

Judydreamsofhorses · 19/07/2017 14:08

Flo I have a bit of a list for autumn going on already. I tend to buy far less in spring and summer because I am not sure how much wear I will get from things, and stuff like proper summery dresses just don't get used. But lovely skirts and opaques and jumpers and boots - yes, please!

PoppyPopcorn · 19/07/2017 14:14

Yes Floisme that's normal - buy stuff to replace things which are done. Not to replace an entire wardrobe each year.

Last winter I bought a 100% wool Hobbs smart coat in Oxfam, brand new with tags for £15. It is bloody gorgeous and will last me at least 10 years. I don't care if it's not this season's style or colour. I don't but high fashion items anyway like those god awful cold shoulder tops which were everywhere last winter and will be unsold in your local charity shop this year.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/07/2017 14:21

I have clothes from every decade from the 1890's to now. The idea of buying 'new' everything is just ConfusedShock

Miaoriely2017 · 19/07/2017 14:23

I also love Autumn/winter fashion and already excited about it.
I find myself in shops avoiding the summer stock that's still in and heading towards the new autumny he things.

OP posts:
Doobigetta · 19/07/2017 14:29

I probably buy half a dozen things at the start of a new season. And when I change over my existing clothes between winter and summer half a dozen things will get retired because they don't feel right any more. Whether that is after one season or ten depends on how fashiony or classic a style it is. The shortest-lived items tend to be "going out" tops. So wasteful to start again every season though. Plus it makes me happy to get out old favourites I haven't seen for six months and wear them again.

BeBeatrix · 19/07/2017 14:29

Last year's clothes?

I'm still wearing last decade's clothes.

RebelandaStunner · 19/07/2017 14:45

Can't imagine people replacing every item each season.
Decent boots, Jackets and coats last me years. Sometimes they do out live my love for them and get passed on to the charity shop.
Other items get replaced as they get tatty.
I look forward to clothes Shopping in Autumn the most.

Floisme · 19/07/2017 15:00

No my point is, I don't only buy to replace clothes that are done. I can't draw or paint but I like to wear interesting clothes. I buy as much as I can second hand but I do buy new too, not because I need to but for pleasure. So there it is.

But I doubt many people - if any at all in these boards - replace their whole wardrobes every year.
