Preventing sunburn - linen shawl?

I have always tried to take a linen shirt on holiday but, not being as slim as I once was, it doesn't always look very nice on top of short sleeed low neck tops.

What do others do? I have just ordered a linen scarf from Amazon which hope will be an alternative.

But I am no confident with clothes and would be glad of guidance.

Tia!

I stick with plain cotton or linen shirts, not over a top, just buttoned up, sleeves rolled down and collar up. And a hat. My worry about a linen shawl / scarf is that it sounds a bit fiddly and that I'd be forever hoicking it back into place. But I do burn very easily.

Yup (and something on my bottom half!) But I'm not really into wearing pretty things when it's hot - some women look great but I prefer simple and more functional.
