Skinny jeans for fat women

I'm actually asking for a friend who isn't on MN - she's short (around 5'1") and a size 20/22. She has bootleg jeans but fancied trying out a different look so was wondering if she is too fat, too short for skinny jeans.

For those who think I'm the "friend" btw I'm really not. I'm about the same size but nearly 6' and have only one leg and my prosthetic one doesn't feel comfortable in skinnies anyway!!

Firstly, loving the pre-empted 'friend' 😂.

Secondly, Matalan skinny jeggings are worth a try. They come in three lengths but unsure of biggest size. Very cheap but good quality.

She might be better trying straight leg or slim leg jeans than real skinnies
I am smaller than your friend but have chunky legs and I look awful in skinny jeans
However, she might find some in Sainsbury's and if she tries them in and laundry ie anthem then she should go for it

The Sophia Jeggings from Simply Be are great, they come in 3 lengths, look like skinny jeans but are really stretchy so very comfortable.

if you're in good shape, despite being heavy, skinny jeans are probably more flattering than boot cut, anyhow. I'm not heavy but have short legs and bootcut jeans just add far too much bulk where I have no reason to have any bulk (plus i trip over them!)

I do have a heck of a knackered belly, however, and the M&S sculpt, and lift jeans fit me really well without cutting in.

I also have a pair of boy fit jeans from next which are flattering and comfy, but I bought them before they started embellishing and fraying all of those.

Slim legs look ridiculous on me. They might as well be boot cut. Might be a better option if your friend carries more weight around her ankles, though.

I think it would depend on her shape, not just size. I'm a size 18 and live in jeggings from Asda. They go up to a size 24 in their standard range, and you can buy online. Cheap as chips, different leg lengths and loads of colours - I have black, brown, light blue and dark blue. I am 5'7 with long legs, and they suit me and are so comfy, I dread them going out of style (prob won't stop me wearing them though!!)

Depends on her shape. If she has even toned legs then fine. If however they're flabby then straight leg or girlfriend/boyfriend jeans might be better.

My girlfriend likes River Island and New Look, they're stretchy and really comfy.

I know as, after three years of living with her, I've started to need my own pairs (male versions) Blush

Tesco, Sainsbury's, next, DP, matalan all do good skinny jeggings. Next ones don't last though.

Notreallyarsed · 03/09/2017 10:52

The high waisted sculpting skinny jeans from Simply Be are amazing. I'm 5'4 and a very apple shaped size 18 (think skinny legs and arms but massive boobs and belly). They don't fall down like other ones, and they're good and comfy too.

CheckingMyPrivilege · 03/09/2017 11:15

Is she pear, apple, or rectangle shape?

And yes, love the pre-empt/disclaimer!

polyhymnia · 03/09/2017 13:14

I recommend NYDJ, but they're quite pricy.
