Ditching the mascara

I have light brown eyelashes and have spent years religiously making them black every morning as per the fashion for dark eyes.

But one morning I did the rest of my make up and thought 'you know what, they're nice as they are.' And haven't used mascara since except for special occasions.

Is anyone else ditching the mascara and do you think the fashion for dark eyes is changing?

Oooh No! I was mascaraless for a few days when hay fever really bad, but no. Lashes are good enough without liner and mascara.

I have short fair eyelashes. They're still short unless I wear lots of lengthening mascara. I have tried lots of different brands of mascara in my time.

The purpose of eyelashes is to keep things out of eyes. Why would anyone want to coat them with tarry stuff.

I wear eyeliner but not on the inner lashline.

I had to go mascara-less for 8 months as my tear ducts were so small they couldn't drain tears so I spent months constantly crying. Think I worn mascara 8-10 times in all those months. It's sorted now but I like not having to take it off at the end of the day plus no mess while sweating at the gym after work.

I now only wear it maybe once a week for work and only if we go out someone nice at the weekend.

I'm blonde with incredibly fair eyelashes

I have auburn hair and mascara that looks good on me is really hard to find. Black or even black brown mascara makes me look like I've been painted by a rather heavy handed doll maker.

I've tried to get brown mascara but as I don't live near a city with decent selection I just gave up.

I haven't worn mascara more than a handful of times the last two years. But then I also don't wear much makeup at all, I'm really lucky to have excellent skin and naturally pink cheeks etc.

scentofwater I had the same problem that they all looked really unnatural, and have found the Rimmel 100% waterproof (blue tube, pretty cheap and widespread) the best for simply making your eyelashes a bit darker, not making them look doll-like or ridiculous. Although that being said I have mostly ditched that now too. Like other posters it's nice not having to take it off or it irritate your eyes etc.

Gave up daily mascara years ago as found everything gave me smudges by the end of the day. I think I must rub my eyes a lot though. My lashes are dark but now that I'm going grey I get them tinted black every few weeks and I curl them most days. Mascara for the occasional party only.

I look better with it on as it suits me having darker lashes. But, where I live it's really hot in the summer and everything just slides off in the heat. When it's hot, the sweat irritates my eyes and then mascara is a nightmare. So, in the summer I don't wear any make up usually. In the winter I just wear some powder, blusher and mascara, so not much anyway.
