Culottes. Keep or return?

I have bought these ted baker culottes with a view to wearing them to work (smart/casual office). They look better in RL than in the photo.

They are a lovely heavy material - but there is a lot of material! Very wide legged, but nice and swishy.

Have culottes had their day? Should I keep or return? Please help me decide! (and yes, the fact that I am having to ask, perhaps tells me what I need to know already...)

I generally like culottes but not keen on them, sorry.

insertimaginativeusername · 11/07/2017 18:46

I wore some yesterday and got lots of compliments so if I'm not in fashion for wearing them no one else was either! Grin

Out2pasture · 11/07/2017 18:48

a photo of you wearing them might help.
I've been checking out culottes all summer, but there is something about these that don't work for me.
too heavy a fabric for summer wear? too wide unless you are 5'9"? wrong footwear?
I can't put my finger on it

AuntPol · 11/07/2017 18:55

I think that on me, they are maybe a bit too long. So they look sort of like wide legged trousers that are a bit too short. Which would probably bother me every time I wore them.

So thank you - I think I will leave them packaged up ready to return, which was my first instinct!

And if anyone has seen any lovely culottes, please point me in the right direction...

Mmm. I like them! It wouldn't cost much at all to have them taken up slightly.

CaseStudyResearch · 11/07/2017 19:13

I wore a black pair today with a fitted orange top. I also have a green pair which I love - both from Topshop.

Breezybreeze · 11/07/2017 19:14

I think maybe its the crease that makes them look a bit odd

MyFavouriteName · 11/07/2017 19:19

I have culottes from Zara and people always compliment them. I don't like the ones in the link though. They look a little dull.

TakeMe2Insanity · 11/07/2017 20:04

I am a culottes fan but theres something in these that looks odd.

laramara · 11/07/2017 20:39

A lot of culottes that you see are fairly casual, but those Ted Baker ones definitely would make smart work wear teamed with a tailored white shirt as the pleat makes them look very tailored.

AuntPol · 11/07/2017 20:44

Thanks everyone. As I don't love them, I am going to send them back and keep looking. Will check out the suggestions above!

I think culottes are weird, but I like those.

lalaloopyhead · 11/07/2017 20:56

They look a bit odd, they almost look like hem is coming down or something. They also look a tad long and frumpy on the model.

I like culottes in general but I'm not keen on these I'm afraid.

AuntPol · 11/07/2017 21:17

They do look odd in the photo, I agree - they look much better on.

I just tried them on again, just in case , but it's definitely the length that's all wrong. They finish a couple of inches above my ankles - they should surely be more mid-calf length to be culottes.

They do look nice but there is a lot of material. I have these and they fit perfectly and look smart for work or dressed casually

I still wear culottes to work, I find them very useful. They are nice.
