Wedding Coming Up - do you like this dress?

Hi,

I have a wedding coming up - not such close family so don't feel I have to be too overdressed...

I recently heard about 'Joanie Clothing' and really like their vintage vibe and the clothes are really reasonably priced - seems too good to be true!

I saw this dress in their wedding section joanieclothing.com/product/nisha-short-sleeve-lace-dress/

I love the Navy and think it looks nice quality - is it too short for a wedding do you think? Hmm

Have you tried Joanie before? It's free returns so thinking there's not much to lose!

Let me know your opinion x

That dress is gorgeous! It doesn't look too short but it depends on how tall you are.

RatherBeRiding · 07/07/2017 11:06

Love it. I think it would be ideal for a wedding and not too short at all.

KathSmyth · 07/07/2017 11:07

Thanks! I think so, at £45 with 10% off first order, I think it's much better value than going to Coast and the like.

I'm 5'5 so not too tall!

I also like this gorgeous red one that's in the sale! joanieclothing.com/product/sybil-red-floral-bardot-wiggle-dress/ it's very bombshell though.

I really like it!

Becstarlenski · 07/07/2017 12:25

No it's lovely, not too short, I've had a couple of dresses from them and a bikini, I would say size wise true to size but not massive like m&s tend to be, quality nice I had a lace one for a wedding and it looked lovely x

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 07/07/2017 12:30

Interesting first posts OP. Screams "massive advert" to me.....

JennyLane · 07/07/2017 13:38

@VivienneWestwoodsKnickers
I thought the same

SorrelForbes · 07/07/2017 13:43

Huge advert! There's another post on S&B about their bikinis!

yourerubberimglue · 07/07/2017 13:44

I think it looks like a child's dress the

ExConstance · 07/07/2017 13:53

Well they look like lovely clothes to me, I'll forgive them for putting out the news. I like all the lace dresses and the swimsuit with a picture of what looks like an Italian village on it.

runninggranny · 07/07/2017 13:53

It's a lovely dress, and not just for a wedding. Don't think it's too short. The red one is lovely too, but, like you, I feel perhaps a bit much for a wedding.
If you strech to it, why not get both? There will always be an occassion to wear the red one.

WarminsterMum · 07/07/2017 13:58

Just like an advert! Go on op, are you in marketing?

KathSmyth · 07/07/2017 23:24

I might take a chance on it after the weekend after trying a few on shopping tomorrow Grin

New Look seem to have some lovely things in too atm, haven't been in one for a while but seen NL all over Facebook on bloggers

And no not an ad, jeez guys Hmm

Just looking for thoughts. Usually I feel like I know my own style but weddings seem to leave me a bit on edge - so many rules and opinions I find!

Madeyemoodysmum · 07/07/2017 23:33

The website is fab. Love the fact the models have lumpy bits too. Great find!

Madeyemoodysmum · 07/07/2017 23:33

Ps I like the navy dress a lot

KathSmyth · 07/07/2017 23:38

@madeyemoodysmum

Yes I like that too, it's refreshing!

Did you see the news about ASOS leaving the models' stretch marks etc. unairbrushed recently? Still a long way to go, still being slim gorgeous conventional models, but definitely a step in the right direction!

Sounds like an ad to me.

ImADingleDangleScarecrow · 08/07/2017 09:24

I've linked to Joanie before and I don't work for them. I just think they sell nice clothes Hmm it's been mentioned a few times on MN. There are some posts on S&B that are blatant ads - normally for dodgy shit sites - but this post doesn't seem like an ad to me.

In answer to your question, I don't think it's too short OP but I think it might be a bit dark for a summer wedding unless you plan on brightening it up with shoes/bag etc

KathSmyth · 08/07/2017 09:38

@ImADingleDangleScarecrow

Hmm good point - wedding isn't until end of August (who knows what the weather will be doing by then?!) but thinking I could lighten this with a colourful fascinator and matching shoes or bag.

What colour would complement do you think? Coral was suggested to me but I don't know if that's too much for me! What about a pale pink ?

OP posts:
KathSmyth · 08/07/2017 09:47

Also I first heard of Joanie through MN too actually - not ordered anything yet though.

As one of my fears for weddings is being seen in the same dress as someone else, it's appealing that they seem relatively unheard of.

Anyone know any other good (not too expensive) brands that aren't on the high street or are quite new? I don't want to accidentally coordinate with someone's nan!

OP posts:
SpiritedLondon · 08/07/2017 10:01

You had me until you said fascinator. Please don't do that.

KathSmyth · 08/07/2017 10:03

@SpiritedLondon what's wrong with a fascinator?!

I'm not talking a satellite dish, just one of those small ones that clip into your hair

See what I mean about rules Confused

OP posts:
WarminsterMum · 08/07/2017 21:36

Fascinates are aweful. Including the small ones.
