How to clean make up brushes?

I'm just using soap and water. Should I be using something else?

I use baby shampoo to wash mine, probably not often enough though.

Nymerialuna · 06/07/2017 21:46

I just use normal shampoo or body wash and soap on my stippling brush as I find it cleans better.
I have used the proper brush cleaning solution and didn't find it did the job any better.

Always baby shampoo! And wash them thoroughly, I only wear foundation once or twice a month but I spend about 10 mins washing my make up brushes! I'm a bit neurotic about make up though, had a nasty bout of keratitis from an old mascara once Confused

Honestly, anything soap related that gets them properly clean is fine.

There is zero need to use a specific brush cleaning product, it's just a gimmick although brush cleaner is useful for spot cleaning when working.

Just remember to let them dry laid a an angle (with the heads pointing down) so as not to let water get into the ferrule and potentially wreck them Smile.

I use shampoo and conditioner

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/07/2017 21:56

Baby shampoo here too, every Saturday.

Pirisprinkles · 06/07/2017 21:57

For delicate brushes, I use baby shampoo. And for synthetic hair, I use Marseille soap, works very well.

Mum2jenny · 06/07/2017 22:02

Shampoo with whatevers around then put them when they've dried in 70% alcohol to kill most of the bugs. Alternatively, buy new brushes etc.

I tend to buy new brushes though.

I use a daily spray from superdrug after every use,it's fab and mega cheap.

BusterGonad · 07/07/2017 20:04

I use shampoo or a gentle soap like Dove, I also leave them covered in conditioner for 10 mins to make them super soft! I really need to wash mine as I've not done it in a while!
I read somewhere (maybe here) about someone who puts them in the washing machine!!!! Also someone who washes them in Fairy liquid! Nooooo.....I'd never dream of doing either!

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 07/07/2017 20:15

I use a cheapo fragrance free face wash because i have sesitive skin

KimchiLaLa · 07/07/2017 22:48

Dove soap or baby shampoo. I have one of those silicone face scrubbers from Primark. Put the soap on the brush and rub the brush on the scrubber - takes more product out. The foundation literally pours off mine...it's ridiculous how much gets in to a stippling brush.

Fluffybrain · 09/07/2017 11:34

Thanks everyone. Started using baby shampoo and it's good. I wash my foundation brush daily or I get spotty.

Gentle shampoo or facial wash

GreyBird84 · 09/07/2017 18:49

I put them in the washing machine tied inside a pillowcase & a capful of zoflora. No doubt it harms the lifespan of the brushes but I don't buy really dear ones anyway.
