Another Friday Lemonday for me. Suited the early morning sun. Need to get to m and s to investigate the lemon and bergamot.

Feeling jealous of excited for tomorrow's workshoppers. I'll have to go with a 4160 tomorrow in honour.

Also need to think about Monday's sotd. Lots of big meetings. Something that smells a bit proper I think...

Judydreamsofhorses · 11/08/2017 19:56

SOTD was Chanel 19 for yet another trip to the dentist.

That mascara was in my magazine earlier, vintage. I am a terrible smudger and sweat by MAC False Lash Waterproof.

OCSockOrphanage · 11/08/2017 20:36

For the wedding, I am thinking................ Dries? again? Or Elixir des Merveilles, perhaps.

La Chasse aux Papillons sounds as if it should be perfect, but I hate it..... I have a 5ml mini (virtually untouched) and shall have a clear out soon so make lists of what you'd like.

MrsCocoa · 11/08/2017 21:31

How could I forget Sockdog OC? A perimenopausal moment...

SirVixofVixHall · 11/08/2017 22:42

I have a lovely dog.... I have had lots of cats though, I do love them. No cat now because the nearest road is a worry.

Pestilentialone · 11/08/2017 22:47

I'm not doing a five set venn diagram, they get ugly and complicated. How about we rename the cat section 'cute furry animals'?
So long as you like perfume, here is a good and hopefully welcoming place to be.
SoTD Doe in the snow, prepping for tomorrow. Do I wear perfume tomorrow? Do I wear 4160 or something weird or something classic?

MrsCocoa · 11/08/2017 23:02

Pest - sounds a plan Smile.

I'm going scent-free tomorrow so I can test stuff I make on my skin. Remember getting quite overloaded with different smells last time and having to step outdoors from time to time to clear head/nose.

MrsCocoa · 11/08/2017 23:09

Last wedding I went to OC I wore a JhaG rose - can't remember if it was Miss Charming or Lady Vengeance? Former probably.

GreenPolishToGo · 12/08/2017 00:48

Scent free for the workshop tomorrow sounds eminently sensible to me. I always run out of available patches of skin on squirting expeditions so I'm sure I'll need every inch to be my own guinea pig.

Agent Cooper 4160 Tuesdays Dirty Honey might be worth a try. It is meant to recreate the scent of Mexican mock orange blossom in a London garden. I'm very fond of it.

Floofy, yes, definitely need to add lots of books into the Venn diagram along with the cute, furry animals.

POAL for a wedding, Sock? Though it does create the risk the groom will run off with you instead, so perhaps not.

Fingers crossed Southern Rail behaves for this viper's outing tomorrow. Hopefully see you in the morning, perfumistas.Smile

PassiveAggressiveFloofiness · 12/08/2017 08:51

Hope you have a great fragrant day! So interested to hear about it and what fabulous elixirs you all brew (that makes you all sound like witches sorry Grin)

Sock weddings are tricky aren't they? It's that balance between smelling amazing but not better than the bride WinkI have one coming upwith erm...difficult members of DH's family and it's the first time I'll see them in my wheelchair so I'm fretting about it. So I'm interested in Perfumes for Weddings recommendations!

Yes we are definitely all for cute furry animals - all about inclusion on the perfume threads! Even non fragrant dogs Smile

explodingkittens · 12/08/2017 10:12

Hope you all have a fab perfume-making day today. We want in-depth reports! A friend texted me this morning to ask if I wanted to go to a Mrs Gloss and the Goss perfume-making session next month but I'm at a wedding Sad. She didn't say what house it was with but I think they did their last one with 4160 Tuesdays, which sounds like it would have been fun.

In other news, my Tauer samples have arrived (squeeee!) I've only sniffed from the sample bottles because I've not showered yet but am already predictably in love with L'air du desert Marocain and can't wait to see how it goes on skin.

Choosing a perfume every morning has become my little ritual, I love it!

OH MY GOD I HAVE FOUND MY PEOPLE.

I am a perfume addict. I am a niche perfume addict. I spend a ridiculous amount of time on Fragrantica. I love everything spicy, ambers and adore frankincense.

This summer I have been wearing the gorgeous Santal 33 by Le Labo, L'Artisan's Amber Extreme and Tom Ford's Champaca Absolute. I vaguely flirted with Bond No 9 Fire Island which is supposed to smell like tanning lotion at the beach but it is just NOT for me. I also tried Creed's Jardin D'Amalfi and Virgin Island Water but couldn't get on with them. I'd love to find an orange or citrus that worked for me but none really do. Love them on others though.

The best day I had this year was when I bunked off work with a colleague and we attended a perfume workshop with Roja Dove. Fascinating and I learned so much.

I don't think I've found my summer signature scents yet... In winter I love Agent Provocateur L'Agent, Serge Lutens Arabie and Chergui. But my ultimate fave cold day perfume is L'Artisan Parfumeur's Passage D'Enfer. It's such a dry sparkling frankincense and it makes me feel full of fragrant smoke and ice. And very imperious, like I should be swathed in fur and diamonds.

I'm also obsessed with house scents - perfume parlour's fragrance dust in an electric burner is the business. They have an oud lime which is the best house smell ever. Even my brother remarked on it and he's a total perfume philistine.

I used to live in the middle east and you could go into these perfume shops, pick a glass bottle and then they would make a perfume oil for you by blending the smells you liked for about £25. Wonderful stuff.

AgentCooper · 12/08/2017 10:53

Thanks everyone for the advice re: non-citrussy orange blossom - you lot are good!!

DailyMaui · 12/08/2017 11:00

Oh but I have a dog... Am I now barred? And he also smells quite skanky because he's been in kennels while we were on holiday (I used the Virgin Island Water sample to scent the tent!).

However I am menopausal, hypothyroid and the teeth could be better...

DailyMaui · 12/08/2017 11:23

My scent memories - my mum always wore Opium and I used to sneak some... as if she wouldn't have noticed!

My first proper grown up perfume was Chanel no 19 that my grandad bought for my 16th birthday. For a loooong time I only wore Escape...

I only very briefly flirted with the body shop perfumes. A girl at work used to drench herself in White Musk so that put me off and the one and only time I wore Dewberry, I opened the door and my boyfriend asked if I'd been cleaning.

My granny only ever wore Estee Lauder perfume. My grandad and I once bought her Mistouko for christmas once. She was openly horrified and used to call it "that awffy toilet water."

I got Luca Turin's books at Christmas and after being inspired by his gushing praise, got hold of some L"Artisan Timbuctu - someone upthread mentioned skanky elbows. Well this highly regarded "masterpiece" makes me smell like old tramp after about two hours. I keep revisiting it to see if it will change. But no. Smell's great on my husband, mouldy old man on me.

I'll shut up now. But perfume is my obsession.

explodingkittens · 12/08/2017 11:24

So I now have LADDM on my left wrist/elbow and Le Maroc pour Elle on my right. Oh, my...

These scents are so complex I don't know if I'm ever going to have the perfume vocabulary to describe them. I'll get back you Grin

explodingkittens · 12/08/2017 11:28

That was me with the skanky elbows Maui, after sampling L'air de rien. What a great day that was 😆

Welcome to the thread, I'm a newbie too but being inspired every day. I also come from a family of Estee devotees - my childhood smelled of Youth Dew, Private Collection, Beautiful (my first 'proper' perfume) and White Linen.

34AQuid · 12/08/2017 13:14

Have a great time at the workshop, Perfumistas, and report back pronto!

SOTD is Stella, which I haven't worn for about a year, but thought I better start trying to plough through a huge bottle languishing at the back of my cupboard. Its surprisingly light and rosy, not the velvety fragrance I remember from my 30s hen I wore it religiously. Even so, I might scrub it off and go for some Addict. I'm a little bit addicted to it Grin.

Going off on holiday again tomorrow for a fortnight and still haven't packed. Struggling with perfume choices...wish I'd bought a full bottle of Florabotanica, as that worked perfectly in the heat last holidays.

Anyway...GET OFF MN, woman! Grin

34AQuid · 12/08/2017 13:14

Oh, and welcome Daily - its great in here! Grin

IWantToSmellLikeAMemory · 12/08/2017 13:17

Hello Maui- you have definitely found your people, and after your description I have added Passage D'Enfer to my wanna-list (and some PP perfume dust- my room fragrance at the moment is a L'Occitane Neroli and Lavender one I got to make up an order to get some freebies) Do you like Neal's Yard Frankincense skincare? It's very good.

I am in PP Rive Gauche today. Am thus rocking the classier side of 80s taste.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/08/2017 17:50

waves to Dailymaui

SOTD is Narciso Rodriguez For Hrr. Out for lunch and then a few bits in the shops. My teeth really hurt today after yesterday's visit to the dentist - the one that was worked on, the one above it, and another one. I wonder if the scale and polish has set them all jangling?

kittens the Tauers are great, aren't they? I got a bottle of Lonestar Memory for my birthday this year.

Super-excited to hear about the 4160 day.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/08/2017 18:07

F. F. F* the M5 traffic. I should be at a wedding. We left in good time. A five car pile up, plus all the change-over holiday-makers going home, on the M5 brought Devon and Somerset to a standstill. We covered 12 miles in over 90 minutes, with 60 miles to go before we hit Bristol and S Wales. Every alternative route out of the county was gridlocked too. We did the calculations, studied the maps, checked all the apps and web sites and reasoned that we might arrive two and a half to three hours late, if we were lucky, (without changing into wedding finery). So we turned around and are all feeling dreadful, sad and guilty at missing the celebration. We had been looking forward to it for months, and now we are back we are wondering if we should have persevered longer.

OCSockOrphanage · 12/08/2017 18:10

Having just read your suggestions for wedding scent, I am creased up laughing at the idea of the groom running off with me even in POaL! Quite apart from being older than his mum, I have known the bride since she was the most beautiful baby ever (apart from DS, of course)!

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/08/2017 18:28

Oh no, OC! What a shame. A similar thing happened to my DP a couple of years ago. His friend from school was getting married and because of numbers I was only invited to the evening do. (Rude.) DP decided he would go by himself but come home on the last train (we're in Scotland and the wedding was in England) so went off in his kilt at 7am, then reappeared about 10. The train had broken down, and the dreaded replacement bus would have got him in after the ceremony was over, so he came home. I got the shock of my life as was still in bed, but he did bring bacon sandwiches.
